Also, it's very possible that when she gives birth to Ichigo, she somehow loses her powers (maybe Ryuu Ishida take away her powers for her insubordination/leaving for Isshin) and thats why she isn't able to fend off the normal hollow. It doesn't take very much extra thought to come to that conclusion, now it's about how Kubo ties it all together.

Uryus pappy? imo i think Masaki get hollowified and in proicess of curing her she loses power, thats the only way that makes sense

I remember reading somewhere that Kubo wanted to make Urahara the evil mastermind behind everything(maybe instead of Aizen) but the fans liked him too much or something of that ilk. Also, there is CLEARLY only one way that Masaki lost her powers. After marrying and living with Isshin, he leaves his zanpaktou lying around the house( being a slob and what not). Masaki is carrying some heavy load and clusmily trips over the zanpaktou, and it then pierces her through her soul pressure spot and the bends and hits the other spot. Isshin, lamenting what he's done, stabs himself with his own zanpaktou to get rid of his spiritual pressure. But, because only the spirit pressure is cut off, Masaki and Isshin still have their Shinigami/Quincy microbes(which have been the source of their powers all along, lets call them mitoreaistulorins). Anyway, later, Masaki gives birth to Ichigo, but they cant go to the hospital because Ryuu is still mad at Masaki for leaving, so they call Urahara for help. He sends over a midwife gigai who was actually made from hollows and that transfers Hollow powers to Ichigo. This event inspires Isshin to open up his clinic. Many years later, Ichigo gets stabbed by a zanpaktou, awakening some of his latent powers....

Yea, otherwise there would be no reason for Urahara to turn around when passing by Masaki.

- her being a pure blooded quincy is worth checking out - vasto lorde inside - being the mastermind behind things, he reached the same conclusion as aizen (hollow from a dead shinigami w/c bit a quincy)

What follows is pure speculation but it fits. They used the soul of Kaien Shiba(ironically a relative of Isshin Shiba) in their hollowfication experiments, resulting in the hollow shown in the most recent chapters. When Masaki killed the hollow, the soul entered her and hung around. Presumably at some point in the future she gets knocked up, and the soul becomes Ichigo. Ichigo inherits Shinigami power on his father's side, and from the Shinigami soul, Quincy powers from his mother's side, and hollow powers from the hollowfication that happened before he was born, and reactivated by the near-hollowfication that happened wayyyyyyyy back before the soul society arc.

TECHNICALLY possible but i cant imagine why they would go to such great lengths to find a deseased Shinigami instead of jsut nabbing a non-deceased one and using that
