DCU movie that isn't animated, the mess of a movie is implied.
Saw it last night, i enjoyed it for what it was. Harley quinn is the highlight of the film IMO (And not just her ass but i very nearly got in trouble from the wife). The villain is pretty weak admittedly and there isnt much character development for anyone but harley quinn / deadshot, but whats there is pretty good.
Overall i think it was worth watching. I guess for measurement purposes i thought batman v superman was trash? :D

I may catch a matinee, otherwise I'm not in such a rush to pay 12 bucks a ticket to get in.
Otherwise I'll just rent it on Youtube when the time comes.

Is it confirmation bias or are more and more movies going back to that really specific title track for the credits? Not quite Animal House levels yet, but I hope movies don't go back to spelling out specific plot points to music.

and that measurement purpose, hahahaha
Yeah agree, i couldnt remember for the life of me the black ladys name but her will and margot really did the film justice.
Regarding the joker, i enjoyed the stylised appearance & acting of joker & harley and im a fan of leto as it is.
I enjoyed Suicide Squad more than the theatrical cut of BvS at least.
Could be because I went in with low expectations, but honestly enjoyed this one a lot. 7/10, Margot/Will/Viola was great. Hell, I enjoyed Leto's Joker for what little he showed screentime wise.
Hated the new Suicide Squad. The Joker would spit on this portrayal of him. Only redeeming thing about this movie was Harley & Deadshot. I have to agree with most critics with how bad this movie was. I'm a huge comic book nerd btw and own all the Suicide Squad graphic novels.
Saw Suicide squad. Didn't like much about this movie, the jokes didn't land with me or the fiance at all. Most of the film I was pretty bored, the fight scenes were pretty boring, to me. The main villian just suffers of being way too powerful, kind of like apocalypse.... then goes down like a bitch. Didn't have any expectations, didn't really follow much beyond trailers about this movie, was hoping it'd be better. Also, didn't really like leto's joker or harley quinn... and couldn't understand 90% of things Croc said.
The movie was perfectly fine. Not amazing, but good. Obviously you need to lower your expectations kind of like we all do when we watch a marvel's universe movie regarding how realistic the story will be.
The Suicide Squad actors/directors have apparently been saying that while its disappointing to have bad reviews from critics, this is a movie for the fans.
I'm a fan. I read the comics. I LIKE the Suicide Squad characters and stories. This movie was crap.
The vast majority of actors were really good. I don't blame them at all (except for Will Smith who can't play a character and has to play 'Will Smith' in every film).
But DC needs to quit trying to play it safe. You keep trying to please everyone and you end up disappointing everyone instead. Nobody gets what they want.
I think it was really clear that this was meant to be their response to both Gaurdians of the Galaxy AND Deadpool. It missed the boat so widely on why people liked those movies though. People didn't rave about the GotG soundtrack just because it was classic rock, they raved about it because it was classic rock that wasn't tired and overplayed. It was DIFFERENT. People weren't raving about Deadpool just because he used guns and was an antihero. They raved about it because it broke the mold of 'PG-13' violence/sexuality and was legitimately clever in its humour.
So what's DC's answer? A soundtrack full of the same cliched songs that seem to be everywhere these days, mostly mild violence/sexuality in what is traditionally one of DC's more brutal franchises, and the worst writing I've seen in a DC movie so far.
I could go on and on about this, I'm so disappointed. I expected it to be crap from the moment we first saw the Joker and we learned that Will Smith was Deadshot. I'll leave it there for now at least

I guess it depends on what you consider acceptably lowering your standards.
The writing for some/most of the characters was pretty terrible imo. There were some absolutely terrible and cliche lines, especially in the last act. The CGI at the end was passable at best during the final fight. There were some major plot points that were either unexplained entirely or completely underdeveloped. I tend to lower my expectations for comic book movies to begin with, but this wasn't even acceptable imo.
The entire time I was conscious of the fact that I was watching a movie and was just waiting for it to end. I felt really bored and just underwhelmed with it as a whole. The movie just seemed too commercial to me.
My point is that there is a double bar depending if the movie is based on DCs universe or Marvel. Most DC movies are compared to the dark knight from cristopher nolan, which is not only a good hero movie, but a good movie.
Marvel's movies such as civil war, age of ultron, thor, ironman (even the first), etc ,etc , are full of cliche, creepy one liners which just get laugh at because you don't expect the movie to be serious, so you take them at the value for what they were introduced.
So, as a superhero movie, suicide squad was pretty in line with anything else in the market. If you have watched 5 hero movies in the past 3 months, you are very likely to be bored because they are all pretty much the same. Happened to me with Xmen and Civil war aswell.
And it's not lowering your standards... it's having realistic expectations towards what you are going to watch. And as movies, most superhero movies are still pretty much crap. I mean, barring the dark knight, and some outliers such as Guardians of the galaxy, the rest of the movies are just poster movies which happens to satisfy our inner child, nothing else.

Damn you guys are so biased it's not even funny.

I never sung Civil War's praise when that movie came out. I actually thought it was extremely overrated and that it had almost no plot. However one thing it did right that Suicide Squad didn't is that it kept me engaged. I am realistic about my expectations going into superhero movies, and I don't expect fantastic movies most of the time. I actually skipped BvS and the new Xmen movie cause I knew I wouldn't like them.
Honestly, I don't even think the Nolan batman movies are the best superhero movies. TDK is arguably the best, but I'm also a fan of the first two Toby Macguire Spiderman movies, the first Iron Man (hated the second, thought the third was average), and the first two Xmen movies. I liked Deadpool for what it was, and I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was decent (incredibly overrated, but good nonetheless). Batman Begins is an above average superhero movie, and TDKR is kind of shit imo.
Just to be clear, I'm not remotely close to being a major comic book movie fan. There are only a few of them that I think are legitimately good movies, and even fewer that I feel the need to rewatch. However, I almost never feel utterly bored out of my mind when I'm watching them. Suicide Squad failed in that regard, because even during plot-lite movies like The Avengers or CA: Civil War, I still felt that the action was more than entertaining enough to justify the lack of any real plot. Suicide Squad felt like it lacked a good villain, good action, good plot and character development, and it wasn't even funny or well written. None of those characteristics individually would make a terrible movie -- I think at least a couple of those would be true for most superhero movies -- however it didn't have any standout characteristics: it wasn't funny like Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy. It wasn't well written like TDK. It didn't even have great CGI or action like the Avengers movies.
Suicide Squad had a lot to live up to, no doubt. However, even if you compare it to most of the other comparable superhero movies, I would say it's below average. If you enjoyed it, that's fine. The majority of people think it's a fun movie and that's quite alright. I personally did not enjoy it and felt letdown.
It find it awkward to discuss The Dark Knight in the context of superhero movies. Obviously it's a superhero movie, but its main influences come from neo-noir and crime drama (which were the obvious sources for things like The Long Halloween). It's a superhero movie in name only.
The quality of Marvel movies depends on your expectations. For most people, they care about characters roughly adhering to their preconceived notions and the plot being consistent and clear. Most of their movies lack definitive vision or a voice, and the ones that try inevitably run up against the limitations of the material (e.g. Iron Man 3). My personal gripe is that Marvel movies, with the exceptions of a few moments in the Thor continuum, lack distinct cinematography. It's all flat and workmanlike.
@MtlGuitarist Oh, i don't think it was an amazing movie. Just another average hero movie, and i am rating it in that context.
That's why i am speaking about expectations, if someone goes with the same expectations he has for a Marvel movie, and he enjoys marvel's movies, i don't see why he wouldn't enjoy suicide squad. I went with that expectations, and i enjoyed it for the first 90 minutes. After that my brain just couldn't help itself, but that's a recurring theme in most marvel's movies lately too and people don't seem to have a problem with that, hence why i won't criticize the movie for being too long.
