I went in with the mindset that I could never enjoy it more than I enjoyed the original Toy Story as a child, but I loved it. Obviously children are going to enjoy it, and adults will enjoy the nostalgia, but it also stands on it's own as a legitamately good film

On that note, any Pixar movie haha. Walle and Up are my 2 favorites, but any will do. Walle has more than a few (hilarious, might I add) nods to 2001 A Space Odyssey, and Up is funnier than most pure comedies (by that I mean not necessarily aimed at children) could ever imagine.

Just don't be so condescending to people you disagree with and there won't be a problem.

Finally got around to watch this old gem recently.. Turned out very entertaining and heart-warming at times. The acting felt brilliant in my humble opinion with such a fun interaction between nurse Ratched and McMurphy, who felt like Nicholson's role of his lifetime.
Should probably hit the book eventually!

I think the reason Fight Club is such a good film is the energy behind it. The movie simultaneously has 3 or 4 genres flowing and changing all the time and it only improves the film and is not a distraction. It's also easily the best cult film so there's going to be a lot of support for it from people online, much like Donnie Darko. Plus, can you really beat The Pixies?

Well, I must say that I disagree with the statement, "It's also easily the best cult film", out of hand. Every cult thinks their movies the best

I second this. The Last Detail is a great little movie. Nicholson was in soooo many good films in the 60s and 70s.

This is supposed to be a sarcastic rhetorical question right? Just in the alt rock noise genre alone: Sonic Youth >>>>> Pixies
In fact Sonic Youth has actually made soundtracks for movies.

Pixies aren't really noise rock like Sonic Youth is, two very different bands.

Since I too was appalled that he doesn't like any pre-80's movies and I myself have been on a bit of a Bogart/old movie kick... I feel the need to add to your list a bit.
Casablanca (1942) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034583/
Key Largo (1948) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040506/
To Have and Have Not (1944) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037382/
The Asphalt Jungle (1950) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0042208/
The Big Sleep (1946) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038355/
And just another great old movie
Citizen Kane (1941) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033467/
The Big Sleep especially I felt was an absolutely amazing and complex detective story... and the acting in all of the above movies is beyond spectacular.

Of course there are better bands then The Pixies, but Sonic Youth's doesn't really match up with them, Sonic Youth sounded dated back in the 90s, now they just sound ancient. Pixies "Debaser" or "Monkey Gone To Heaven," still sound amazing. Hell, there last 3 albums are about perfect. Dont get me wrong Youth are awesome, but not vs The Pixies.
As for the 70s Nicholson...
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/YPF07cI.jpg) Chinatown really is a perfect movie, much better than The Godfather(s). corumjhaelen complains about overrated movies...

You should read Farewell, My Lovely and the Long Goodbye. Both are by the same author (Raymond Chandler) who wrote the book that movie's based off of. I think those 2 stories are better than the Big Sleep.
As for their film adaptations, I don't think Farewell, My Lovely did the book justice. Haven't watched the Long Goodbye yet. But I agree with you, the Big Sleep was a solid noir flick.

The Thirteenth Floor (1999) - 6.5/10

Just watch World on a Wire instead.

On the recommendation of this thread, I watched the Triangle. I was very delighted to see the comparison with Inception to not be unfounded. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommended it to others. Suspense, Thriller, Horror woven altogether as one.
|
Went to see The Wolverine this afternoon. Didn't really like it. The pacing felt uneven, I didn't really care a out any character. As far as summer blockbusters go, pacific rim was far superior.
|
i watched Evangelion 3.33 lately
i thought it was pretty good. it successfully recreated that feeling of insanity that you get from the later part of the original series. and it was in NO way bound to any previous evangelion stuff (like 2.0 or whatever the last movie was, which i didn't like but definately want to re-watch now). yeah it was refreshing, im really pleased about it
there were some/at least one "action thrillers" that i missed in the last 1-2 years. i can't remember the name of them, stuff like "The ...." . anyone know what im talking about? (stuff like 1 man is an action hero/assassin/being chased/save his daughter etc) . im sure you know

Watched Pacific Rim yesterday
OH MY LAWDDDDD
Go see it. Just go and see it. It's like power rangers with a massive budget + Idris Elba, what could you want more?

Witch Hunters (2013)
![[image loading]](http://cdn.breitbart.com/mediaserver/Breitbart/Big-Hollywood/2013/01/24/hansel-gretel-witch-hunters.jpg) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1428538/
Movie is about the Hansel and Gretel, two children who narrowly escapes death as a witch tries to eat them, based on the classic fairy tale. However this movie takes it further, fast forwarding into time, making them adult witch hunter lol.
The movie is alright, entertaining and funny at times. Good special effects also. But, it is what it is, a quick action flick, so don't expect something deep
6/10
Evil Dead (2013)
![[image loading]](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-l1V2MR4hHTU/UWROyebcPXI/AAAAAAAAALY/irwJIpyaGh0/s320/Evil-Dead-trailer-10_612x380.jpg) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1288558/
Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival.
Movie is a remake of the Evil dead from 1981 (good movie) I can honestly say Its not as bad as most would think. Given it had a lot to live up to, it was actually alright. Though there was a lot more gore then I expected. Don't know if that a good thing, or bad given the nature of the demon possession genre.
6/10
Killing Season (2013)
![[image loading]](http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/killing-season-bluray-title.jpg) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1480295/
Two veterans of the Bosnian War -- one American, one Serbian -- find their unlikely friendship turn tense with one of them reveals their true intentions.
Terrible movie. The mix of john Travolta wearing a weird fake chin strap speaking in a bad Russian accent, and the overall bad plot makes this a very boring movie to watch.
2/10
