Red State does a pretty good job avoiding most major horror movie cliches (I don't even really like classifying this movie as horror). To Kevin Smith's credit, there were quite a few unexpected turns I didn't see coming that were a pleasant surprise.
The acting across the board is all very good which obviously helped, and Michael Parks (the pastor) is phenomenal. A lot of people want to see him get nominated for an Oscar, but I'd say that is a long shot.
Objectively this is Kevin Smith's best film and most ballsy for sure. But I finished the movie feeling a little empty and unsatisfied, so I'll give it a generous 7 out of 10.

![[image loading]](http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ANske5CI9oY/TZHq8dr6EeI/AAAAAAAAAA8/lPTmprXvRCQ/s1600/The_Hidden_Fortress_poster.jpg) The Hidden Fortress - Another fantastic movie from Kurosawa. Actually was pretty suprised to hear it influenced George Lucas when he made the first Star Wars film. I still have some Kurosawa films to see, I think it would be a crime to make some sort of list of out them though, they are all fantastic to me.
![[image loading]](http://myfirst.classicfilmfreak.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/gallery/1951/a-streetcar-named-desire-1951.jpg) A Streetcar Named Desire - Never actually knew it was based on a play. Great movie, won 4 Academy Awards in 1951. I was suprised to find out that Marlon Brando didnt win the AA that year, felt like he really deserved it, he was great.
![[image loading]](http://www.movieposter.com/posters/archive/main/122/MPW-61476) Catch Me If You Can - Another one of those movies that I have had for awhile but never got around to it. Even though it is over two hours long, it had me glued to it, wanting to see what happened next. The guy the movie was based on definantely sounds interesting, I am considering getting the book now.

One of the movies I never got around to watching, and I'm sure it has been mentioned here before multiple times, but it was such a great film, it must be repeatedly posted in this thread! Unforgivably, the TV channel I was watching it on stacked it with so many commercials after almost every single scene, that I didn't get to watch it decently. Going to rent the film or something, to view it in its entirety. 10/10 for me.

^^ PF is 10/10 for the vast majority.

I just watched The Man From Nowhere(10/10), The Chaser(10/10), and I Saw the Devil(9/10). Can anyone recommend me similar films? I think I'm in love with korean film-making.

Oldboy
That would be (11/10) on your scale.

People really should just stop rating the movies at all. 10/10 means nothing to me if your taste in movies is mostly chickflicks, then again, 4/10 could be a good rating of an art film, if you don't happen to enjoy artfilms and I do.
I wish people would spend more time explaining what they liked or disliked about movies rather than just slapping on a rating and calling it a day.

IMDb summary: A writer discovers a top-secret drug which bestows him with super human abilities. I don't really want to spoil anything but basically the drug let's him use 100% of his brainpower instead of the normal 20% that humans use. It was a good watch, the plot was entertaining enough for me and the camera work and lighting was pretty well done.
An okayish movie but the 100% instead of 20% part was really annoying. Like we only use 20% of our brains...

Agreed people should also not use absolutes when talking about movies it's pretty annoying when reading someone talk about a movie you love and they say " this movies sucks!!!"
Opinions are opinions not facts yo

A short selection of movies I particularly enjoyed:
1. ![[image loading]](http://static.cinemagia.ro/img/db/movie/00/15/44/dark-city-677346l.jpg)
2. ![[image loading]](http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_CBUNvE4Wr5Q/TFl4rC7Q-2I/AAAAAAAAAgI/eBFYcuyBqwk/s1600/cover_the_man_from_earth.jpg)
3. ![[image loading]](http://www.solarnavigator.net/films_movies_actors/actors_films_images/film_poster_the_worlds_fastest_indian_roger_donaldson.jpg)
Also, can anyone please explain to me why "A serious man" is considered a good movie? It boggles my mind to see such a stale boring piece of shit being nominated for Best Picture AND Best Original Screenplay.

![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/21Dkd.jpg) Tree of Life an arthouse film, youll definitely like this movie if you dont play starcraft competitively

I seriously don't understand why this move got such good ratings. Watch this movie if you think watching people have diarrhea is funny.
