![]() Friend is the semi-autobiographical story of four friends, Sang-taek, Joon-seok, Dong-su and Jung-ho. It shows them grow from little boys who like to swim in the Busan ocean and sell pull-outs from Playboys to grown men who take different paths in life, some of them quite dark. The film is largely about what it means to be a friend (chin-goo). I felt close to Sang-taek, the narrator. He leaves for college while his friends take up a criminal life and I can relate a little. There's a love interest for Sang-taek in the middle of the film (Joon-seok's girlfriend, the leader of a band called 'Rainbow, who is forced into JS's dark world') and it's a shame that we don't see Sang-taek ever get to be with her. Another incredible Korean film.

![]() The Night of the Hunter - A serial killer and self-appointed preacher shares a prison cell with a man who commited a robbery and hid the money. He thinks the mans family holds the clue to find the money and ends up marrying his wife while treating the family like shit and ultimately trys to find out where the money was hidden. This was pretty good. ![]() Biutiful - A single father who works in the black market gets diagnosed with cancer, he decides to help out as many people as he can while trying to fix his relationship with his kids and ex-wife. Even though I felt the movie was too long, it was really fucking good. ![]() Save the Green Planet! - I remember seeing it in this thread somewhere, so I remember it and decided to check it out. A guy thinks aliens are invading the earth and sets out to stop them. Thats all I will say about it. It defies any genre, There were some horror elements with the scenery, there was some comedy, as well as alot of sci-fi elements. Really fucking good, one of my favorite korean movies now.

![]() Inception: I watched inception this weekend as it was the premiere on SkyMovies (UK TV Channel) I didn't really like it, purely due to after 2hrs and 10minutes, it ends with you not even knowing if its reality or dream world! What a waste of 2hrs and 10minutes of my life! Watch it however if you like weird crazy plots and a "head fuck" I will however rate it an 8 due to how good it was and how much they tried to make it a decent movie, but i think it was just too much personally 8/10

Good story and they didn't go the way of "build up a lot of tension and then don't show the monster so CGI budget is low". Saw this last night. Actually thought it was beyond stupid. + Show Spoiler + "The Airforce carrying airplane parts? I don't trust 'em". Then punching a military official in the face. The dad is pretty dumb/nonsensical overall. 1k car not just derailing a 1000k train but even causing wagons to fly all over. Throughout I felt it couldn't decide whether it was a kids movie or an action flick. Dunno why they made the alien carnivorous, not needed for the story and it'd duck you under pg13.

You rate it according to the intentions of the film makers? Anyways, I present to you all "Paul". + Show Spoiler + ![]() If you liked Spaced, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you will most definitely hate this movie. The "Producers of Hot Fuzz" is not Edgar Wright (the director of said other titles), and even though Simon Pegg and Nick Frost wrote "Paul", it's director Greg Mottola must have misinterpreted just what the audience enjoyed in Wrights work. That is, intelligent humour supplied by it's witty conversations of the "against-the-world" friendship of Pegg and Frost (amongst other things, of course). In this movie, however, Frost spends half his screen time hating his buddy, while Pegg doesn't notice anything, because he's too in love with some girl. I read some guy's review on IMDB in which he states that this was written for an American audience, and maybe that has got something to it, because the storyline and all of the jokes are so cliché (from dumb cops to religious gun loving southerners) that nothing will ever surprise you. Speaking of the cops, I had sort of like a feeling that I've seen these two characters in every movie about any 3D animated non-human lead hunted by the government (though I can't come up with anything on the spot... unless.. maybe Flubber?). I rate this movie shit/good.

![]() I can't even begin to list all the ways in which I fucking LOVE scarface (80's version of course). Mainly it's because it appeals to a more mature audience without having too many stupid sex scenes that add nothing to the story. It defies so many laws of film-making at the time, yet is also enjoyable for all the reasons movies should be enjoyable. It is perfection. Oh, and the absolutely amazing ending doesn't hurt either. I also watched the original three Star Wars movies, and afterwards watched the Red Letter Media reviews of the three prequels. Those reviews converted me finally. I officially fucking hate the Star Wars prequels TT;; The most recent new film I watched must be Harry Potter 7 pt 2. And at the time of viewing it I thought it was absolutely fucking amazing, although it may just be because of the epic factor of it all.

Though actually, if you watch closely, it's pretty obvious if it's either a dream world or reality. Just sayin'. Edit: I do, however, agree somewhat with you. I mainly didn't like it because I felt that the crew had thought somewhere along the lines of: "Well... the notion of going into a dream in a dream has already been done and stuff.. let's go EVEN FURTHER (dadum dadum dadadum, south park style)."

Yes, lol so you don't know if its Reality or Dream....which you don't know through out the film with the goings on with his "dead" wife begging him to kill himself to "wake up" thus you spend 2hrs 10mins watching it to not know the answer = a crap ending, i would of rather he killed himself or it was a conclsuive bad ending rather than not know

All your examples happened in the primary world and the experiences are just as real whether something negative happened or not. Using some of JRR Tolkien's terminology- primary world being the 'real world' and secondary world being the subcreation of a writer that temporarily makes the story seem real at the time (the 'you had to be there' excuse to a funny story that is deadpanned is an example of a failed attempt in bringing the listener along with the story. A failure to create the secondary world.) A movie or a story (aka storytelling) creates a secondary world. The storyteller temporarily transports the reader/ viewer to another time or place. The inception ending threatens to undercut that secondary world so that it possibly never happened. While some viewers/readers may appreciate this ambiguity, may find it frustrating to be taken on a journey and find out that nothing may have happened at all (in the secondary world itself, not the primary world.) For these people, when the story's existence is called into question within the story, then there is no way of knowing what really happened (in the secondary world) and therefore, one might as well not have read the story. It's a negative reaction to being slapped in the face at the end of the movie/story and told the story you just experienced did not exist or else you don't know if it existed. People often watch movies to have the experience of being transported away and the cold water at the end is not appreciated. Now having said all that... although I usually dislike stories that undercut their own existence, I actually liked Inception's ambiguous ending. Where it any other story, I probably wouldn't have. However, because the entire focus on the film is on questioning what's real and what's not, it makes sense that the movie will continue that questioning. Furthermore, the ending actually mimics the idea of inception quite well. We know that the filmmakers purposely put that ambiguous ending in. However, once they did despite us knowing they did, we cannot dismiss the idea. The idea has taken root and we are still left wondering whether the top stopped or not, no matter how much we want it to be resolved one way or the other. Aka Inception. But I still think the top stopped- and it's also part of Cobb's character arc- he starts off being obsessed (bordering paranoid) with what is reality, but in the end he doesn't care (he doesn't watch the top) he has made his choice whether it is real or not. Sorry, that was probably waaaay overkill ![]()

Character names should appear above the heads, and the plot should be explained before the film starts. It was more like the director didn't know how to end it and so just made it into this open ending that are open to all to interpret I watched: The weather man http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384680/ Pretty interesting, the story is kind of slow moving. Depending on your age, you might find it interesting/boring. It is basically about a man trying to get his shit life back on track. Lady in the Water http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452637/ I thought it was average-good. Unlike other fantasy movies that concentrate on the fantasy side of things, like avatar focused a lot upon exploring the alien world. This one focus on how it led to a change in the character and quite a lot about human nature. Excellent acting. It seems a lot of people didn't like it because they were expecting it to be a heavy fantasy movie. Mad detective http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0969269/ It is really good. Honestly, Hong Kong films are really good at these detective/crime/mafia movies. But this one has a different touch to it, the detective can see the "personality" of a person. Some people who are greedy for example, he can see a "ghost" behind the person who is fat and convincing the person to be greedy. Other very interesting part is that he himself doesn't have a ghost and he sees his wife's ghost all the time. Love the whole story and concept. (not being bias because I am from Hong Kong lol) Vengeance http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1329454/ Also another Hong Kong movie with crimes. I liked it quite a lot, especially because the main character forgets things after a while, so every so often he needs to check whether he is with his friends or enemies. Not as good as mad detective but this one left me quite an impression because I rarely watch Hong Kong movies
