Really loved the first episode, this show consistently delivers.
As someone who hasn't read the books, I also found the scene with Stannis (?) and his advisors to be totally over my head. The ritual made no sense, and as for the poisoning, I thought he just poisoned her glass but she switched it back on him or something. Subtlety is okay with me, but I think too much was left implied by that scene. I didn't get a sense for any of those characters besides the man who died.
Cersei vs Littlefinger was the standout best scene in the episode, in my opinion, although the baby-killing at the end was quite effective, and all of Tyrion's scenes were great as usual. I really can't wait for next week! @_@

yup. the little ones were not cutting it. cgi is needed and most people love it

Every people have negative sides (I don't even know if incest is bad GoT times) and his flaws are minor.

I was so glad to have him pegged when he showed up. Whoever played him nailed it.

Killing a little boy because that boy saw him having sex with his sister is a "minor flaw"?
Also I am pretty sure that fvcking the kings wife and having your sons take the place of the kings sons, stealing the throne etc, is a crime in the GoT world. The fact that she is also his sister is totally negligable in comparison.
Or did I miss the sarcasm?

That's kind of what the bookreaders mean with that scene.
In the books every one of those characters gets fleshed out really well, like the backstory of davos, the maester (the one who killed himself), etc.
Imo it's definatly worth it to just read the prologue of the book to get a better sense of the characters.

We were not supposed to talk about the book, but as we are already there I will do so as well.
+ Show Spoiler +In the books it was just as confusing. The appearance of the red priestress was just as sudden and seemed kinda random to me. The ritual and the change of religion did not make any sense. The only explanation given by Stannis was "oh well the old gods sucked, I guess I try new ones for a change although I do hot really believe in this nonsense". The little backstory on Davos did not help to explain that in any way.

I feel like the only reason some characters might not have been fleshed out enough for now is because it's the first episode back and there are so many story threads that need to be picked up to give people a sense of where things are. Perhaps as the season goes on we might only have two or three characters get appropriate focus in an episode with only the occasional scene to someone else.
This episode was still largely about Tyrion, Cersei and Joffrey's story if you look at screentime, though Robb and Stannis sort of just stole the show away from them.
Given the motions nearer to the end of the episode, I expect that the next episode will probably have focus on Arya, perhaps Renly, Tyrion and Theon. But obviously the Arya story thread should have a fair bit of focus next episode. Looking forward to seeing how they continue it all! =D

Pushing a 8 year old kid out of a window doesn't seem minor to me
I still like Jaime though

For me as a book reader i had goosebumps all over the Stannis and Melisandre scenes. Those were indredibly intense. Everything about the Stannis actor is great, the whole correcting the letter is just through the roof great.

Had he not pushed the kid out of the window he, cersei, myrcella, tommen, and joffrey all would have been killed.
Not necessarily saying I condone his action, but it's not like he's some sadistic dude who just goes around maiming kids.

I read the books and I could not agree more here. The show is very well done and definitely worth watching, but I guess it´s safe to say the books simply deliver a different experience as is to be expected .

I thought the episode was overall very good, but agree that the Stannis/Melisandre/Davos intro was a bit lacking, although I sympathize with the HBO crew in that it's not an easy dynamic to introduce in a minute or two.

Ep 2 english audio is around somhow, good luck everyone.

I agree, that if Jaime wouldn't have been into his sister and if he didn't act so ruthless in key moments, he'd be a great person.

I disagreee, he didn't even want to push him out the window, it was Cersei insisting on it. Jaime was of the mind that simply calling brandon a liar would be sufficient and who knows it might have been.

I don't think the experience is different at all. The books merely provide more information which is to be expected. The general feel of them is very similar in my opinion.

ep 2 is so much better than the first ep. Now I have to wait a long time for episode 3 zzzz

Stop talking about the books! FFS the mod post at the top clearly states that you dont compare the two in this thread. Jerans.
