Seems like really dark and "adult" fantasy.

It is about power hungry nobleman (and woman) backstabbing each other for the Iron Throne while in the background an ancient evil stirs and magic slowly comes back to the world.

I find this question about the same when someone asks me "what is the wire about?". It's a massive story that has literally dozens of story lines in it and it's about how this world moves and shakes as characters strive for whatever it is they want. It's not like your classical story in that it doesn't have 1 story to tell. It's an entire world in wich many things occur wich all in turn influence each other. There isn't a group of good guys going to toss a ring into a volcano, there isn't a clear start-finish, it's a massive story wich you just have to experience, it can't be summed up. If you have to grind it down to what it's about then "Political intrigue set in a medieval fantasy world" seems closest, because that is what it is at it's core. You can sum up what the theme is but you can't exactly sum up the actuall plot because it's just too big for it. The story is also massively enjoyable because it rarely follows the expected path so spoilers can seriously harm the enjoyment. In the end there aren't a lot of stories like it and people really need to just sit down and watch/read it. The amazing world and story will take care of the rest, but asking for a sum-up of the plot is very hard to do for this show without spoilering things.

But yeah, hoping for redemption in the latest.

I've got a lot of other books to read before I buy the third. however, I have a quick question. I know that people always talk about the "trilogy" but there is also a 4th book. I looked and saw that it doesn't have that good of a rating, but I don't want any spoilers so I didn't look into it. so, I was just curious, without giving away any spoilers - is the 4th book not very good or something? I don't want to get excited to read it and then be let down! thanks. I personally enjoyed A Feast For Crows. The reason it gets lower reviews is that it is a thousand page half book. That is it is only from the viewpoint of half the characters, and some of those characters people find boring. Dance With Dragons is supposed to have the other half of the characters in the same timeline. I think that's about all I can say without any spoilers.
