They split the Wheel of Time books into 2-3 per book, at least the early ones. Probably they did that here too.
And Snow actually makes sense to translate. It is more of a tag given to bastards than a real surname. They are called Snow because Snow is something of the North, just like bastards from other places are called Rivers, Stone, Storm etc.
It makes much less sense to translate something like Baggins, since even though it is derived from words that used to mean something, they are not used in that context anymore. It is only used as a surname now.

I just can't wait 2weeks... seriously I want to start reading the book from exactly the ending of episode 7, if you know either reply to me by pm or just post here. Thanks Ends exactly on page 442. Edit: Or, at least it does on my book, It's a new print so I'm not sure if some are different.

but you should really start from the beginning. if you have any disposable time at all im sure you'll catch up in no time. book is hard to put down. they really dont leave out very much at all but every scene hits so much harder in the book, i feel.

+ Show Spoiler [Episode7] +Loved Episode 7. Builds on Ep6...what with the crown and all. Drogo gives a pretty big speech to make his intentions clear. Regarding the bastard child/ancestry bit, I was pretty slow. I saw that another poster already figured it out faster than I did hehe. When Sansa was talking about making babies with "beautiful blonde hair", Ned was like wtf. At first I thought it's cuz he doesn't like the Lannisters, but then I remembered how he was talking bout the bastard's son who worked in the butcher's shop. The cliffhanger would have been a bigger surprise if that 11-post troll didn't ruin it for me Oh well, I still enjoyed it at a lot, but maybe there should be restrictions so noobies can't ruin threads like these when they clearly aren't reading the thread "sticky".

HBO is doing a great job yet again with a new series. When I hear about something new from HBO I get excited at the prospect. When CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX/SYFY etc. release a new series I am like... meh...

It ends with the 50. chapter called: Eddard XIV

Hey guys, just curious.
I had never read, or even heard of the books before I saw some of the promos for GoT on HBO; but after watching the first episode, I was immediately hooked.
Anyways, without giving away any specifics, I was just wondering if the walkers (and that whole world north of the wall) are going to make any further appearances? The drama and premise was more than enough to keep me watching after episode one. However, the real reason I tuned in to the series and continued to watch, was because of those riveting first ten or so minutes in the forest.
Anyone? Great show so far. ^^

Anyone? Great show so far. ^^ Jon Snow is on the wall, and as a brother of the Nights Watch he is sworn to protect the realm from the things beyond it.
I think its pretty safe to say that his part will feature some of the supernatural things beyond the wall...

The north becomes a big part at the middle/end of the second season and the third season, nothing really happened in the first book for that other than mainly getting to know the people that are there

They slow-play a lot of the more fantasy-like elements in this series, including the walkers stuff shown in episode 1. They are important, but the major story elements are going to remain on the more realistic drama for quite awhile.
I love it though, it really gives the series a more dramatic and serious undertone no matter what is happening at the moment. It has that classic fantasy element of something epic being just beyond the horizon, and as more and more is revealed as the story progresses, it just seems that much more epic.
That's why I love that they start out the show with it and only slowly drip it in here and there (for example with the iconic "winter is coming" stark slogan and other cryptic things heard throughout the series).

Mord's part with Tyrion made me laugh. Very well done.

Question about episode 7....
+ Show Spoiler +How did ned know exactly that Cersei and Jaime were a couple? It wouldn't seem like an obvious guess since they are siblings. I know the previous episode he was hinted about the hair color difference of Robert and his son Joffrey but to know exactly who fathered Joffrey and how his son was pushed over the edge seemed wierd. Did I miss something?

+ Show Spoiler +Well , Ned had deducted that his son had heard or seen sth he shouldnt have..then he discovers the kings son is a bastard.. with golden hair..and he doesnt seem to know the same kind of genetics we do , he only took into account males.. when it would be possible for joffrey to have blonde hair depending on roberts mothers genes..
so he added 1 and 1.. a noble blood kid who someone tries to kill TWICE for sth seen or heard, while the king and lannisters where at winterfell and joffrey not being roberts true son

Should be roughly the same time that season 1 started next year, so some time in April 2012. They just started auditions for season 2 new characters.

Way to be the bearer of bad news.
Can't wait until the series starts to pick up and every scene is epic.

The reason Eddard knew is because the + Show Spoiler +Barthaeon seed is strong. Robs bastard in the forge from episode 4 I think had blonde hair, and the boy was born with black. That added to the fact he read the book which mentioned that all Bartheons were black haired, and the children have blonde, made him realise that shes banging a blonde...and that blonde can only be her brother as there aren't many other blondes in the castle Either that or they're all bastards and have no claim to the throne......GO NED!!!!!
