Haha, I was going to say something about the *possibility* of melting gold in a campfire, but then re-watched it and noticed that not only was it not nearly hot enough to melt, but the molten gold was actually bubbling. Yeah, okay. Power of will. Oh and boiling gold looks like really hot metal (you know glowing red). I'm kinda sad they botched that, how hard is it to do one google : http://www.google.be/search?q=melting goldCan a campfire reach 3000+F degrees?
you want to melt it and not boil it. The melting point is at 1000°C if you want to trust wikipedia

What they didn't tell you was that the gold was just chocolate wrapped in foil.

As I have a chemistry degree I'd love to continue this conversation, but we're getting way off track.
Less physics of melting gold and more GoT, please! PM me if you're really curious.

doesnt need a chemistry degree to make the distinction between melting point and boiling point >_<

Yeah, I was really looking forward to see them just sitting there for hours waiting for the fire to become hot enough. -.- Otherwise, Ep6 was just great! Man, I so wish I could watch episode 7 now It was the best episode so far, but it did seem like the actions of characters are careless just to make events more interesting, even if they lack common sense. I don't only mean the last episode. Well if you try to understand these characters more closely you will see all they do it based on their life views and their current knowledge (or lack of) and is not as careless as you think. If you want to go into details you have to name the scenes that looked careless to you.

First would be imprisoning Tyrion Lannister based on evidence that didn't really made sense. Why would they give assassin such an uncommon weapon? Maybe it will be explained later, but based on what Starks knew so far it seem like they didn't know enough.

I did smile about the gold melting in a pot scene, but then I realised, it was said that belt had gold emblems in the book and who knows how "pure" that gold was or what are the characteristics of the metal in GRRMs world. Basically, it might not have been interpreted as gold in the movie.

Well they won't develop all the characters and plots in 4 episodes, there are 3 other books of material with the 5th book coming out this July. I know some people can't watch the show any legal way in the country they are in, but hopefully if you like the show you buy a legal copy of the DVD when it is released so HBO has the financial support and incentive to produce those additional seasons and not cancel it like they did Rome.

What would you do if that happened and the person you suspected fell into your lap?

Is Khaleesi (spelling) part dragon then or whatever? She didnt get hurt by the fire. I figured it was just a figure of speech but she actually seemed immune to it...

not really.
She is one of the last pure Valyrians, country that is extinct, who conquered the seven kingdoms with the help of their Dragons. You can say that they are sometimes immune to fire.
But the whole lore behind that is not really explained as far as I know.
I think it was once said in the book that the Targaeryans always have 2 children. One is the insane one and the other one is the "awesome" one.

I actually download the episodes in HD because i dont have a HD connection to SKY, but i still record them on SKY anyway just so they get my viewer count and i have just bought all the books and will for sure buy the boxset when it comes out. I just hope everyone who watches and enjoy's the show will do there part to help the show continue to get the highest quality of production for future seasons. This is quickly becoming one of my favourite TV shows ever and just hope we get to see it to the end.

Well Catelyn was returning to Winterfell trying to not get recognized. Nobody (she didn't trust) knew she was in King's Landing and she wanted to keep it that way as question would be raised. Then she runs into Tyrion that recognizes her and would for sure tell that to Cersei and Jamie. Also from the mouth of her "little brother" Littlefinger she was told that it was Tyrion's dagger that almost killed her son Bran. At the same time from the mouth (letter) of her own sister she suspects Lannisters to have conspired to kill Jon Arryn. So she decides to take Tyrion as prisoner and have a hostage because if she does not her husband might come into same danger and they (the Starks) will not have a bargaining tool. Also she is a grieving mother and wants revenge for her son becoming a cripple (any parent in this world would feel this way).

To close the gold melting discussion: A campfire can reach to 1100° C , melting point of gold is 1064.18 °C.
So disregard my previous stupidity...

Trust the nerds to ignore everything else from the episode and focus on the implausibility of melting gold in a campfire pot!
I thought it was a fantastic episode, and what it lacked in action, it made up for in intriguing plot development. I like the added scene with Sansa, Septa Mordane and Joffrey as an extra scene of foreshadowing. The horse heart eating scene was gruesome as it should be, and the final crowning moment was fantastically choreographed. Harry Lloyd is amazing as a deranged Viserys. The only fault I can find with the show is some of the art direction and the lack of scale involved. Obviously HBO's budget is limited compared to movie producers, but I thought that the Dothraki scenes lacked grandeur, making Khal Drogo seem like a random horse lord rather than the "Tywin Lannister" of the Dothraki, the Khal of Khals (until the Stallion who Mounts the World).
Esme Bianco, who played Ros, is hot!
