The 8 gates are a Kinjutsu. Meaning they are forbidden. You aren't meant to know them just like the Edo Tensei. As Madara knows about it, it is clear it has been around since the old ass days of ninja. Heck even Minato knew about it.
Plus Kakashi can open some of the gates as well.

That's the thing with opening 8 gates, its power level would be reasonable to me (that enough to hurt Madara), if only Kinjutsu were really really really rare. The fact that alot of Kinjutsu have been shown and most of them are seriously life-threatening or they will be slowly killing the user in a long run anyway - imagine if Gai's dad (a Genin!!!) could learn 8 Gates, what's there to stop people to that as well?
No chakra needed, no special blood line needed, no complicated way to obtain it (just train 20 years on that shit etc in the worst case scenario) - I am pretty sure many ninjas will be willing to learn this kamikaze style jutsu, you know, just to protect the family/world etc. Not say that apparently 8 gates is more powerful than 5 Kage combined!?
All in all, it would be much more enjoyable to read if Kubo didn't pull that retarded 'some Genin can open 8 gates'. Serious failed writing since Book 2, sigh. I remember i had so much fun of discussing the power levels balance with friends back in the days of Book 1.

Itachi and Nagato were both hilariously op and had to be killed off with a disease and talk no jutsu. Nagato was on the verge of killing both naruto and Bee in under a minute and they got saved thanks to itachi and a healthy Itachi would probably still stomp current Sasuke with EMS :D.

A simple commoner can not master this technique so easily, you need to have a fitting body and the will to master it and use it on the right time. Also may i remind you Naruto is technicaly also a "genin", so 'some genin spamming nukes' is ok right ? as if Dai had time to take the chunin exam while traning his body for the 8 celestial gates technique. I said all that because I am still very bitter on my beloved Hyuga clan is just a trashcan clan afterall. Neji T_T Since you know, taijutsu is a big part in hyuga's jutsu. And no, despite i love the story of Lee being the 'genius of working hard' (I will give that to Gai/Dai too), I don't believe that it justifies the reasons of making 8 gates so damn strong. Or, if it was that strong in the first place, Kubo should just make that Dai murdered the 7 mist swordmen (and died). But he didn't.
I thought it was a typo at first so i didnt correct you, but Naruto's Mangaka is Masashi Kishimoto (or Kishi for short), Kubo is Bleach's Mangaka 
im totally with you on the Hyuga part, they are my favourite too and imo they are even OP, being able to one shot anybody on mere touch and having almost complete field of view, not to mention still no one knows what Juuho Soshiken (Gentle step: Twin lion fists) does, sad they dont get many fights.
well, for a technique to be so great it will kill you after use, it better be strong or else whats the point in using it ?
for Dai not killing all of the 7 swordsmen, we only saw 1 who was alive after that incident so maybe he managed to kill only 6 of them before dying, or maybe he just wasnt focused in killing them, but stalling them in order to give Gai enough time to escape and get a safe distance. its like Dai said "A true victory is not beating someone strong, its being able to protect someone important to you"
