I don't remember that being said anywhere, the series has had its moments, I know it's better than that. Besides, the whole "directed at children" thing is only ever an excuse. I was able to enjoy things that went over my head as a kid, and it made me curious to learn about things I didn't know. I hate that excuse, it gives stuff like this a pass for no reason.
