Not to mention future trunks is a bad ass to watch. Heck, I think it was pretty decent until they introduced immortality and then had them fuse etc... As someone mentioned, I would've preferred they used the sealing technique and then killed off Black when he was alone by ganging up on him. Trunks killing fused Zamasu with the energy was too much of a big pill to swallow and the fact that Zamasu tried to be the universe (...) was ridiculous. It's like someone thought, well, we gotta get the omni king in here, let's just have Zamasu get destroyed by him... A bad ending to what started off as an interesting arc. Also, this arc also felt like the buu arc in the last bit with the constant reviving, withdrawing etc... the way the buu arc played after goku went back to the other world etc... Show nested quote +"Does anyone else agree that the universe tournament was the "good" arc of this entire series? It feels like that is a legit good story that Toriyama likely had a lot to do with. This season, to me, represents a sharp divergence from the typical DBZ I have come to love." No lol. I think this arc up to a certain point was much better. Problem with the tournament arc for me was that it seemed like they made both Goku and Vegeta a lot less powerful than they usually are. Like when Goku was trying to fight that robot and couldn't lift him (from what I recall) or both Goku and Vegeta (or was it piccolo?) missing the poison needle of that Freeza look-alike. It just feels really bizzare and downright stupid at times.
Well underpowered Saiyans in at tournament doesnt mean that it is worse than this God fusion and all this crap that we saw in the last chapters of this arc, these even with Vegitto were uninteresting because of too much power on the table plus inmortality, Trunks getting energy from 20 weak humans was able to break the God fusion (gimme a break) and then Zamasu got even more powerful...well, what is going to be next? Goku fighting Wiss father in order to defeat Black Zeno?

I generally liked the arc. My thoughts
+ Show Spoiler + I think most expected and wanted Trunks to be the one to finish the job but no one before knew how. But technically, he only managed to finish off the physical form.
The fusion was exciting for what it was but I think the length was just right because I don't how they could prolong it with them fighting. So I think them keeping it short and sweet was nice rather than prolonging the fight for 2 episodes. You can expect people to complain that they are just prolonging the fight when we expect they won't be able to finish him off anyway. The potara time limit being shortened was just too sudden given we were just given a head's up by Gowasu about it. I wouldn't know though if they had time progress faster in the episode just to maybe make it reach a half hour instead of just around 10 mins, would it have worked a little to appease people?
I don't know how I feel about how it all concluded though. They didn't really win to save Future Trunks' universe. But it also showed that they don't always win. Like how Goku and Vegeta lost to Hit for the most part based on the rules of the tournament. So it was also kind of refreshing in the sense that they don't always succeed.
I don't understand why Zamasu wanted to immediately fuse with Goku Black just because of Mafuba when he managed to get out of it anyway. Though I do think the story would have flowed better if they managed to Seal Zamasu properly with the mafuba first, then fight with Goku Black (most likely ending to need fusion as well to beat him up because of his op powerup of those black smoke fighters from a dark dimension) After they beat Goku Black, save trunks universe, either turnover Zamasu's pot to Gowasu for safe keeping or "resealing" if gods have better tools to keep those things sealed. Just a thought. This would be the "standard" how it could have turned out where they did win.
It really is kind of bittersweet that Future Trunks and Mai had to jump to a time before Zamasu showed up in their timeline (my guess is just before babidi timeline) so that they can also help in preventing Supreme Kai and Beerus' death in their universe. and With 2 Trunks in that time line, you wouldn't need the help of supreme kai I think to lower the risk of his death due to carelessness.
Also with Whis' revalation, does that mean "Angels" can freely travel between timelines even without a timering? To use the timering, he would need a kai's earing which he doesn't possess but he seems to be sure he can do it himself to warn the Beerus and Whis of Future Trunks' Timeline about Supreme Kai's possible death and arrival of Zamasu.
I still like Super, it doesn't drag as much like Z used to when it comes to their big fights which I think is a positive.
I'm hoping we start seeing a bit more of Gohan's redemption later in the series.

I feel like Toriyama made Black fuse with future Zamasu so the Z fighters never really beat or kill Black while he's in Goku's unfused body. I don't think he wanted to make Black die while unfused because he still looks like Goku and Toriyama loves his protagonist.

the biggest problem I have with this arc is how it just ended abruptly after the epic fight. rewatching some of the older dragon ball z, goku also seemed a bit smarter back then

is there any chance to have Brolly? i man can dream. overall i liked the series but sometimes the animation gets so bad that i want to pull my eyes off
|
Broly's power is maximum, I don't think that he would be beatable if they added him.
It also doesn't help that he is a character with like zero substance and is basically just a big powerful brute. I don't consider him to be a good character.
|
He is an awful non-character with an even worse reason for hulking out.
But I guess if they DID canonize him for whatever stupid reason, he'd potentially be salvaged. I'd really rather not attempt it though.
|
I'd be comfortable with Broly being brought back as a brute-gone-good as a somewhat replacement for future Trunks.
I am just so damn skeptical of what in the world they can do now.
|
There are still 10 more universes so there's plenty of villains he can conjure up.
|
I'd actually prefer a lighter villain. Someone who isn't much of a threat to the main heroes but provides a good chance for character building for some of the major characters.
|
Meh, filler. And it wasn't really a particularly interesting one either.
|
If you look at future episodes, the next few are filler. Arale vs Goku, Champa has a baseball game versus Beerus. Not sure if the one with Hit is filler or not, but that episode sounds sick non the less.
|
In other news, I've basically stopped trying to justify the anime-manga inconsistencies and just take the manga as the only canon. The anime basically retcons to maintain continuity with the manga in very sloppy ways anyway. I'm just gonna roll with it in the anime and not try to make sense of it.

I started watching it in Japanese because I put it off for a while and thought I just should, but I haven't finished what's out yet, and waiting for English dub instead might be worth it. I might have gotten used to Goku's voice in Japanese, but his English one is just better imo. Same for pretty much everyone else. Either I'm super accustomed to the English cast, or they're just better suited to the characters, or both, but I want the English version nao.
|
I'm with you. I am caught up and can tolerate the japanese voices, but I can't wait to rewatch English. Wish they had a release date window at least.
|
Today I learned there are people who not only can tolerate dubs, but even prefer it.
I can't make it through a minute of English dragon ball before dying.
|
I think it depends on what you grew up with. My first viewing of DBZ was as a kid and I watched the English dub. Went through most of the Frieza saga and Android saga. By that point I was so used to the English dub that it became the main way to watch DBZ. If you started on a later age and/or with the original voices it'll likely be different.

I prefer dubs if they are of comparable quality to the original. If the Japanese version is appreciably higher in quality, I prefer the sub. Simple as that.
Death Note is a pretty faithful dub so the dub is better. Yu-Gi-Oh is an awful dub so the sub is easily better. DBZ is a middle quality dub so I look at both, but the Kai version has been mostly a step up in that regard.
