End of discussion.

I'm guessing this is exactly what Lucas was thinking while making them lol.

This guy has the worst voice ever. like worse than the star wars prequels -.-

But I don't think they were that bad. Just like this is the worst WoW expansion they ever made. George Lucas Blizzard is ruining everything they once were.

The voice is part of his assumed personality. Nobody wants to hear a guy straight up bitch about the prequels for 70-90 minutes per episode. But making it incredibly funny as well as assuming the personality of a 103-year-old psychopath makes it entertaining even if you don't agree with everything he says. So yes, voice is good.

Episode 2 was undeniably bad in certain respects. You can make an argument for 3 being decent and 1 being necessary stage-setting in terms of its pacing, but 2 was just filled with horrendous dialogue, unanswered plot threads (yes I know the novelizations explain some of them, but we're not talking about novelizations) and just generally retarded scenes. I don't know anyone who thinks Episode 2 was a good movie. It wasn't Troll 2, or anything, but it was a pretty crappy flick.

Well I'm not defending anything. The analogy also was a bit off. What I really wanted to say was that people expected too much and are thus much more disappointed.
And I dislike E1 much more. Kids as leading characters rarely "deliver" and the final fight with throwing bubbles was just more than I could take.
E: I also think the Yoda fighting scene was too early. I was really blown when I first saw that but thought they should have kept that for pt3 as the big surprise. But seeing it twice wasn't that cool.

I didn't think 4-6 were amazing movies. I preferred the 1-3 movies to be honest although I never understood why everyone thinks Star Wars is so godly.

I hope 7 will be a good movie, but I'm not holding my breath. The universe for this series is already all over the place with ridiculous stuff. Still, I think Disney could do something great if they take their time to make interesting characters and don't solely focus on special effects.

I love the idea of a good sci-fi film series in space, but while Star Wars does a decent job, I don't think ANY movie has ever done a great job of it (or TV series for that matter). They always turn into dramas instead. I like the idea of an intergalatic war with all kinds of crazy powers, where it doesn't turn out that every main character is related in one way or another...

I guess my main hope for 7 is that they don't try to make everything a twist : just make 2 badass armies fighting each other for different reasons and focus on a few characters on each side.

I suggest you try watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I think that is as close as you can come to a good sci fi with large scale combat. All Sci fi is a lot of drama though, because why would you otherwise care that the purple army was winning over the light green one?

I personally like Space Opera. Action Drama that happens to take place in space.

I don't understand. Your first section is all about making "interesting characters", and your second section is all about not having "drama".

Drama is how you get interesting characters. Drama is characters. You can't have one without the other. Drama is all about conflict; interesting characters are born from conflict. Without conflict, you just have some guys walking around.

Now if you're talking about Melodrama, that's something else.

For the characters : I mean that they tend to focus entirely too much on characters being whiny assholes and complaining. To me, a character that is always complaining and/or talking is not really interesting. I like when characters are built through actions and limited exposition.

For movie : I don't really like movies that are all talk and little to no action until one climatic scene. For example, watching 5 minutes of different factions talking about their plans and politics, then them taking action for a while and finally going back to talking later is fine, as long the ratio of talking instead too high. Watching 15-20 minutes of talking then 2 minutes of action and another 20 minutes of talking becomes unbearable though. At least, I'm not looking for that when I'm watching an action sci-fi movie. Leave the long winded exposition to thrillers, romantic movies, etc. That's what I mean with drama. Most sci-fi stuff just tries too hard to create drama through endless exposition scenes.

And I'm not saying I want a movie that is thoughtless action. I just want a movie where it doesn't feel the need to throw twist after twist at me then taking 20 minutes to explain everything in the universe.

I guess because many of the fans are between 20 and 30 and saw the movies during their childhood/adolescence.

To be honest, I have seen them countless times as an adolescent/kid. I felt the prequels were meh and then I haven't watched star wars for a long time. Then since my gf never saw it, I said why not see episode IV.
Man she hated it and I had to sadly agree to some of her critics, it quickly fell down a few spots in my "top movies".

However, I always remembered 5 and 6 to be way better than 4. Probably because Lucas wasn't realizing it I guess. Should rewatch them to see how they feel now for the 27yo me.
Also its hard to argue that the SW universe isn't good. It has plenty of good ideas to it and is appealing. However the main issues are from a cinematography/acting/dialog perspective. So I have a hard time qualifying them as excellent movies (where both plot and screenplay have to be excellent)... they are still entertaining however.

Only prequels I really enjoyed was the 3rd one. The first one has Jar Jar and a ton of time wasted on the race and I can't even remember what the 2nd one was about.
Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.

Oh, I see: you're genre-locked. "Thrillers" are where "talking" happens, "action" movies are where "action" happens, etc. I've never understood this kind of mentality.

If a film wants to present me with a rollercoaster of action, fine. If a film wants to be like Terminator 2, with islands of character interaction interspersed with action, fine. If a film wants to be like The Prestige with very little action, fine. I take each film on its own merits; whatever it is trying to do, I'm willing to let it try that.

All I ask is that it makes what it's trying to do interesting.

Furthermore, I don't see how your clarification here allows Episodes 1-3 to somehow be better at this than 4-6? Because they have bigger battles? Episodes 4-6 have very little of anything that could reasonably be called "exposition"; they as a rule tend to show rather than tell. They have many action scenes and tense sequences. So I really don't see how your classification pertains to Ep 4-6 here.
So you know, cats are interesting. They are kind of like girls. If they come up and talk to you, it's great. But if you try to talk to them, it doesn't always go so well. - Shigeru Miyamoto
