Man... so much hate. I really enjoyed all of Lucas' Star Wars movies. I just take them all at face value without really paying attention the lore side of things or nit pick everything that "doesn't make sense" or isn't politically correct.

I might be the minority on TL, but TL is the minority everywhere else.

Man i get the urge to punch someone in the face when i see them write any of the prequels and words like "good" or "enjoyed" in the same sentence or even just plain talking about them. Those movies should be forgotten and never spoken about.

I enjoyed Episode III a lot, it was very good and still has tons of re-watch value after eight years of viewing.

yes, its the same for me. but this doesnt change the problems with episode 3: episodes 1 and 2 spent way too much time on unimportant bullshit, leaving huge parts of the story arc for episode 3, which therefore seems rushed and overloaded. in addition, while episode 3 is a great effect spectacle and a super solid action movie in a science fiction setting, its atmosphere is nowhere near the level of the old star wars films. it feels cold and technical, there is absolutely nothing in the whole freaking film that is "likable" in any way or sense.

anyway, when i first read about episode 7, i immediately had to think of that one south park episode where george lucas and steven spielberg rape indiana jones / their old films in general.

Agreed. Indeed, I quite enjoyed all three prequels and found them to be very good. I still wish they didn't give it away in Episode III that Anakin was Darth Vader, but other than that, they were good fun and enjoyable!

i hope you are aware that "anakin" was already revealed as darth vaders first name during the original trilogy...

Might have been like me, seen the prequels before the originals (I watched all three originals a year after watching III in theaters).

I don't think III was cold or that technical. Technical I see where you're going though, IV-V-VI have a sort of fantastical feel to them, while II and III have a lot of military overtones that make the movie less like a legend and more like a war story.

I think it was Lucas and not Christensen that sputtered out on the prequels and regained a bit of the fire in III. Lucas put out Episode I and although it caused this huge backlash it is still the highest grossing movie of the whole saga, almost a billion dollars by itself. So while he fixed a few of the problems in The Phantom Menace to make Attack of the Clones (Jar Jar's role is reduced a hundredfold, less cheesy, alludes heavily to Episode V), he left in the wooden lines and a sense of what-the-hell-is-going-on-over-here. I'm not an actor but I can't imagine saying the exact lines from Episode III especially and doing much better than Hayden or McGregor did. In fact, one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in Episode III (and imho the whole saga) happens when the actors have no lines, the scene where Anakin and Padme are staring out over the city to each other, wondering what's going to happen to them and their future.

TL;DR - crappy dialogue, loss of fantasy, movie still has its merits though, Lucas learned from his mistakes partially but it was too late to save the prequels

What? Have you seen Black Swan? V For Vendetta? Closer? I'm not a fan, but calling her a horrible actress is just dumb.

She was hilariously bad in V For Vendetta, dude. The accent? The part where she raises her hands in the rain? Black Swan she played herself on a skimpier diet, and Closer wasn't much of an acting gig. Yeah she's a professional, so she knows how to stand in front of a camera and read lines and not look super out of place. But, compared to legitimately good actresses like Cate Blanchett, Uma Thurman or Naomi Watts....laughable.

She started young, has some weird following of people who think she's good/want to fuck her, and has a pretty face. She had no business in a Star Wars movie, and I have yet to see her perform well outside of 'Anywhere But Here' with Susan Sarandon.

You called her "just a horrible actress". She's not. She may not be great (though how you put Uma Thurman alongside Cate Blanchett escapes me), but she's far from "horrible".

Why do people have these absurd binary distinctions, where anything that isn't incredibly awesome is garbage? "Horrible" is not a step down from "good". There's a hell of a large difference between those. You have to get through "mediocre", "average", "weak", "bad", "shit", and "crap" before you get to "horrible".

Stop with the hyperbole.

Oh yes, Carrie Fisher was a true master of the thespian arts, right? Natalie Portman is at least as good an actress as Carrie Fisher.

I get the urge to punch someone in the face when they think that because they don't think the prequels are good that it means their bad. I mean it's just those movies aren't as bad as people say they are and over exaggerate a ton such as you are here.

Just kidding I don't get the urge to punch someone in the face but I do find your post very annoying because *gasp* someone might think their good which you disagree with! I personally liked 2 and 3, 1 was shit but I had no problems with 2 and 3 ^^.

I thought the prequels had some cool battles. It really made me wish for a superb Star Wars RTS to be made about them, but there hasn't been a particularly good one made so far, although Galactic Battlegrounds was a fun AoEII "mod" and Empire at War had pretty cool space battles.

And I thought the ending to Episode 3 was really good. A lot of familiar elements from the original trilogy appeared more and more in the second half of the movie as it neared the end, and I liked how they tried to pull the universe out of the cesspool that were the prequels and into the brilliance of the original trilogy (minus the Ewoks).

agree to disagree or whatever. But the person you originally responded to was "OkMarius". I didn't call her "just a horrible actress". That was that dude.

On that note, she's horrible. And no, Carrie Fisher was leagues better than Natalie Portman. The standard of non-cheesiness and delivery is different now than it was in the 70s and 80s. Movies, dialogue, acting, it was just different. And, still, Carrie did a great job. No one's calling her god-like. Jesus, straw men everywhere.

Came here to see chatter about the new Star Wars

Actually see a bunch of whiners about the prequels and more people who haven't seen Garden State complain about Natalie Portman.

I dislike them so much because how they raped the old ones. I dont really blame people for enjoying or liking them, thats all cool and stuff, its just that i take these movies way to personal because they were a big part of my childhood.

Infact i would say that i genuinely hate the prequels (as much as it makes sense to hate a movie lol).

Maybe it's because a new star wars trilogy got made, and it turned out to not be star wars ? When the new movies were announced it felt kinda like this: A beautiful, laced up woman comes strutting towards you with "that" look in her eyes, you're thinking to yourself "Wow, is this really fucking happening?", she squirms up real close to you, and knees you square in the balls.

Not a very good experience.

Episode I, II and III were good. Why? Because they had Lightsabers and Blasters.

End of discussion.
