Characters like Jolee Bindo were a breath of very fresh air. I particularly liked his acknowledging how whack the Jedi philosophies were, especially the anti-love thing. On the other hand, love was never really a bad thing post RotJ. Case in point: Luke and his significant other. | ||

This is also the company that created The Incredibles, The Avengers, and Xmen First Class. Disney Channel stars are supposed to appeal to whiny, hyper active pre teens. They aren't your demographic. Disney knows how to target their chosen demographics. When they set their sights on us they will give us a GLORIOUS movie. | ||

Suffice to say I had a similar reaction. The only thing good that might come out of this is that some of the EU stuff (especially from Timothy Zahn) might be made into films. Now that Lucas isn't involved hopefully they can find a good director/cast and make it happen. While Disney does have some pretty lame stuff, they do happen to be behind stuff like Pirates and Avengers so there's a possibility that the new films will at least be better than the Prequel Trilogy (not saying much there...) | ||

More seriously though, I'm not sure wheter this is good or bad. There's lots of material to work from and depending on the director it might end up pretty good. | ||

This has potential, but I wonder a few things: What stories will they be? Based on existing canon, or will they go their own route? How can they continue the stories of Luke, Leia and Han? Them guys are pretty damn old now, I'm guessing new actors will be called up to try their hands and frankly a lot of people won't like it on principle... Who will write and who will direct? I'm sure they can get people who will write Lucas better than Lucas, but the director will be a big thing too. I don't think Burton would be right for the role, he'd make the Star Destroyers funny angles and out of clay. Plus Helena Bonham Carter would be Admiral Daala and Johnny Depp would be C3PO. | ||

The best thing Disney could do would be re-release the ORIGINAL versions of the first three movies. That alone would build so much goodwill who cares about anything else. | ||

As noted above, you just described The Phantom Menace. I certainly hope Disney negotiated the ability to re-distribute the original versions of the original trilogy with Lucas. Since they're a soulless, profit-hungry corporation it would be in their best interests to do so: people that already own the films will be tripping over themselves to buy them again if the originals are released. | ||

There's already an established canon, they'd have to go way off base with this to make it work. I don't see Disney doing that. Or they go make movies of Star Wars Legacy. That would be terrible too. Either way I don't see any good coming out of this one bit. | ||
