I addressed every point raised by Plansix and you. I recognized some of the ANH flaws for what they are. Like I said several times, though: nobody is arguing that ANH and the OT are flawless. The point is that ANH is still better-written than TFA.

Last time I watched them all entirely was the week-end before TFA came out, since a local cinema was doing a SW marathon over two days.

I am sure that you think that you "addressed" every point. I also don't know why you keep on mentioning specifically ANH, i was talking about the OT in general for the most part. ROTJ for example is a pretty mediocre (Star Wars) movie besides the Luke-Palpatine-Darth Vader scene. As a child? Because in my experience people who saw it as a child before they saw anything similar tend to overrate the OT. But yeah in the end it doesn't matter. We should really just focus on TFA here i guess.

Fixed that for you. Now we are on the same page.

I'm talking about ANH because it was the first movie of the OT, just like this one is the first movie of the new trilogy. It had to achieve some of the same tasks as TFA, and the plot is extremely similar, so they're easy to compare.

I don't see how I'm overrating it when addressing the comparisons made in this thread with TFA.

It's not because it's my opinion (duh) that it's wrong, though. I've substantiated it extensively.

You use declarative statements to voice many of your opinions on the topic, so it has the tone of being “objective fact” and people take it that way. I was completely under the impression that you were saying “ANH is an objectively better written film” rather than just voicing your own view. Its one of the reasons why I try to use phrases like "I feel" and "IMO" when talking about parts of something I don't care for.

I do feel that ANH is an objectively better written film, but that's obviously an opinion. You started your post about the force ghosts by writing "The arrival of Ben in RotJ is alittle ham fisted" -- I didn't need you to write "I think" to know that was you voicing your opinion. Anyway, moving on from another off-topic parenthesis...

lol nice.
This is a terrible nitpick and I know you'll all hate me, but it really bothered me when Rey showed up on the island to find Luke...standing and staring at the ocean. Does he do that all day? Why couldn't he have been shown sitting in his hut or something?? Why does this bother me?! I don't know anymore, leave me alone D:

He is just waiting, looking at the ocean. I guess he could be looking at his Star phone.
In reality its to frame the shot. They meet also level, him slightly raised and she hands the lightsaber towards him.

No biggie of course, just remembered it after reading some very lonely luke. poor luke...

Yeah, I didn't like that final scene. Luke staring at the ocean felt cliché, the stare went on for too long, and the shot filmed from a moving helicopter was super-cheap and looked like what you'd find in a treasure hunt TV show.

The huge problem for me with this was something else--that Leia didn't go with Rey on that trip. It bothered me way way more than the Chewbacca hug thing too. She's only been completely involved in tracking down her beloved brother with whom she has a force connection, using all these resources, risking her life and others, for years. Then they finally after all this time track down his location and she doesn't go meet him. I found it really hard to believe and it instantly seemed wrong--and especially so that Rey, who just entered this search days(?) ago, is the one who does go meet him by herself.

I think Rey went to bring Luke back. Leia is a general and couldn't justify leaving just to see her brother, which is pretty in character. She always put the rebellion first in 4-6.

To be fair, being better than the prequels isn't a particularly impressive accomplishment.
