The theory exists because we only see force users ever wield a lightsaber and Finn wields one with some competency.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I would have preferred if the plot wasn't a complete rehashing of EP4 though.

edit: or related to Lando I guess. Although I feel his character would be stronger if they don't tie in one of those bloodlines to him so fingers crossed.

Uh, what? Why would the two characters be related just because they're both black (and even if Finn did have a connection to the Force, a theory that at this point is not supported by anything)?

because there are no other black people in the movies

He's gotta be related to someone lol He was abducted at birth afterall

Edit; I probably should mention I hope he isn't related to Mace or Lando.

There was a black guy in The Phantom Menace. I completely forgot about him, bit just the other day I watched cinema sins and then I remembered that he was there with the fake queen all along.

Damn rights it is hate driven. I spent over a year waiting for a remake of A New Hope with some small, mostly meaningless character and location changes while being told it was something new and original.

The clone army thingy was explained at some point that the clones are not long being replenished so civilian/common folks or many kids were recruited into the first order after empire was destroyed.

If anything, the new republic is a complete joke in SW7, we didnt even get to see them to do anything lol

Well lets talk about what do you expect for E8, I am expecting that the resistance is now in a frozen planet, there are probes from the new order looking for the base and they will deploy mechanical Mammoths (you know bigger is better now in movies), but the resistance can take down those Mamooths down with Harpoons, C3PO and BB8 are the new BFF, Rey is trained by Luke, but she cant move the whole planet with her mind (she is so OP that moving a ship should be easy peasy) so Luke is dissapointed, he thinks she is too old to be trained but Obi Wan reminds that Luke was the same. Finn is full recovered and running away from the FO army, but then he remembers that he fought already vs a Sith apprentice, so he goes in a solo mission to fight the one who can be no named, or at least vs the huge hologram. Kylo discovers that he was adopted by Leia and Han, not in any other way he could look so different compared to his parents, and then in his rage he throws his futuristic Ipad or Note6 into some random screen and cut the computer into pieces with the light saber (like a teenager brat), at the end they turn off the lights so Kylo and Rey meet each other and fight, when Rey is beating his ass again, then Luke screams I am your father (to her) so she got emotional unstable, weak and her arm is cut, being rescued by Chewie and her aunt, or wait a plot hole, I forgot that Finn in some way has to be frozen and claimed by Phasma, nobody knows for what. At the end they will hint that in Episode IX there will be a Mega StarKiller.

We also need to fit in a charming smuggler-turned-entrepreneur who runs a city in the sky and is the galaxy's one and only gay person.

Yeah, I thought about that afterwards, but it would be a too great "innovation" for the movie, what about putting some smuggler background in Poe´s life that is told in 30 seconds, with some metrosexual behaviour and then we are covered. What do you think?

Honestly when Poe reunited with Fin that was full of homo hormone right there. Keep his jacket too, because Poe already fell in love with Fin.

Yes the movie has a lot of things in common ON THE SURFACE with ANH, but if you look just a little bit closer it isn't really 'the same' at all. It was meant to feel similar and yes they overdid it a few times, but it really isn't that bad in the end, you completely hyperbole the shit out of this.

This.

There was a bit too much fanservice and the baseline story is somewhat similar, if they would have done something else than the Deathplanet it would have been fine.
The movie isn't perfect, but its really good, at least as good as VI, if not better. My major gripe would be, aside from too much fanservice, that the pacing feels too fast in the second half of the movie.

Even most of the humour worked for me, which it rarely does in modern action movies, i actually had to laugh a few times... Can't remember this happening to me in any other recent actionflick.
I seriously believe that some people just think of Star Wars and then expect way too much, the OT wasn't perfect by any means. VII is a very enjoyable movie and thats all that one could expect (probably even more if you take the Prequels into account...)

The fan service in TFA was minimal and was only noticeable if you were a big fan of the previous films. At no point did the film give you a nudge and say “Hey, remember this? Huh? Remember?”

And TFA’s greatest flaw might be that it stays to close to the original in its main plot. But the characters and their place in the world make up for it. And the greatest Storm Trooper ever:

People expect to be blown away by it just like the OT did it when they were children. This was impossible from the get go.
Most have seen/read other stories which were new and exciting in the meantime, we have seen pretty much everything which is possible.
If you really expect a new movie to be "magical" again then you are bound to be disappointed.

It's also quite ironic that most people actually criticize the "new" things, like a new take on the villain with Kylo Ren for example.

Mission Accomplished on the feeling similar.

And the changed are meaningless.
First Order IS the new Empire
The Resistance is exactly the same as The Rebel Alliance
Luke = Rey .Strong force sensitive on a desert planet abandoned by her parents that ends up in possession of a droid the bad guys are looking for that escapes on the Falcon after getting found by Imperials...I mean First Order. Plagiarism

Finn is barely original. A Stormtrooper defect who plays Han Solo's part and rescues the captured rebel Poe, who is playing Leia part of prisoner, from the FO base. More plagiarism. Everything after that save his fight with Ren is pretty good though.

Phasma is original. And possibly the second worst stormtrooper in history (Finn, being number one since he defected). WHY DID SHE TURN THE SHIELD OFF TO THE SUPERWEAPON!!!! That's such lazy and stupid writing. I hope they publicly execute her in front of all the Stormtroopers for that betrayal. Incidentally this entire sequence was alot like when the Falcon got captured by the Death Star in the ruins of Aldaraan. Replace the shield with tractor beam and Phasma at gunpoint with Obi Wan and it's the same. Way different result though.

Ren = Vader. Except Ren is more of a whiny uncontrollable psycho instead of a terrifying presence to be around. If Ren killed every FO Officer who back talked to him or reported a mission failure he would be a clone of Vader. Thankfully there's alot of hope for this guy being almost as awesome as Vader.

Death Star = Starkiller Base. This is more of a RotJ steal since a Rebel strike team had to go to the ground to turn the shield off so X-Wings could kill it. Even more plagiarism.

Ren kills Han scene is the Vader and Luke scene from TESB in Cloud City that trades a Lightsaber fight for words and dismemberment for murder. Powerful scene and a key moment in the whole trilogy for sure. I really liked it. And I loved Chewie lashing out and being a total beast afterwards too.

The Cantina with the Lightsaber and accompanying battle and the ship they meet Han and Chewie on are the only two sources of pure originality the movie has. And thus, it's best scenes. I'm too lazy to list every similarity because of how many there are. These are the big ones and cover the main plot progression pretty much entirely.

The movie isn't that bad. I give it a 6/10. I'm just mad that the story lacks originality. Episodes I through VI are all unique stories that are part of a bigger, connected story. VII is not unique enough to me. I will watch it again but come future star wars movies, my expectations are going to be a hell of alot lower.

People forget that the new TFA isn’t just for the people that loved 4-6, but also for the kids growing up today. Star Wars has always been about the heroes journey and rising to the challenge of an era. Those major themes are not going to change. The difference is that we are seeing news views on characters, such as a deeply conflicted villain and a hero turns away from evil.

You've got to be kidding me. The fan service was "minimal"? Not only did the entire plot feel like a fanfiction re-hash of ANH, but we literally got OT memorabilia shoved in our faces several times. Among the less noticeable ones: when Finn is going through various objects after Rey asks him for a tool to fix the gas leak in the Falcon -- he presents her with the automated ball that Luke used to first train with the lightsaber on his first trip on the Falcon. There's also GNK power droid in the background when Rey is selling her scavenged parts early in the movie, we see Nien Nunb return as a pilot, the line "we think they may be splitting up" is spoken by a storm trooper in the stark killer base... Among more noticeable ones, what about the game of dejarik that suddenly appeared on the table? We even got a close-up shot of the pieces on the board. Is that supposed to be what minimal fan service looks like? What about the trash compactor, the new Cantina with an alien band, the "12 parsecs" reference, the trench run, "I've got a bad feeling about this", the alien poking his head through the sand looking at BB-8 very early in the movie, the two stormtroopers inside the star killer based discussing the new BT-17s instead of ANH's BT-16s...? Most of them did not bother me and some were even entertaining, but let's not pretend there was minimal fan service in this movie.

The combination of having (basically) the same plot as well as numerous references to the OT was just a little overwhelming. If you had a different plot and sprinkled in lots of references to the OT, it'd make for a nice original piece with tons of nostalgia for fans. If you had the same plot and no references, that would be... pretty unoriginal. But the thing is there's so much linkage between TFA and Episode 4 that we're basically forced to compare/ contrast the two and all that. It's just very heavyhanded.

What Oo I dont think you entirely know what your saying. Ofcourse only a fan will recognise fan service.. thats the whole point...

And yes it was incredibly obvious. Heck the random trench scene for the Totally Not Deathstar was almost a scene by scene re-render of the original. They couldn't have made it more obvious with a neon sign.
