Hey there is this relatively new show on ABC called The River premiered on Feb.7th 2012. I started watching it with my girlfriend cause she's into scary/thriller type shows. Its from the director of the Paranormal Activity films and she likes those a lot. I'm sort of on the fence with whether I like it or not, but at least it gives me another show to keep up with. It's definitely not a show based on expert writing, but it nevertheless exciting, and intrigues me to figure out wtf is actually going on with the river.
Here is a wiki synopsis:
Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for "magic" deep in the uncharted Amazon basin and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the missing cameraman's daughter, Lena Landry (Eloise Mumford), Magus mechanic Emilio Valenzuela (Daniel Zacapa) and private security bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann).

Just wondering if anyone on TL actually watches it/discuss the latest episodes/what you think of the show.

I was wondering when a thread for this show would appear. I actually watch it and think that it's alright. It progressively seems to be getting better. I'll just have to see where it goes from here but so far, not bad.

Might check it out, the whole documentary style of shooting a fictional film is something im not a fan off however. Shaky, jerky camera movement and the whole "omg do you see that/its coming" while only filming someone with a stationary camera ala PA1 gets kinda old.

This thread needs to be bumped, anyone watching it tonight?

please tell me how it was. A friend showed me the trailer and it looked amazing.

I watch this show and I liked it, I am not quite sure what I think of it all together but it is entertaining to watch.

Watching the trailers, I actually enjoy scary movies. Hardly are there scary television shows so I was excited. But the constant first person camera view gets me dizzy, hard to watch for extended periods of time.
Content wise, it seems decent so far.

Not trying to be rude, but does this show improve after the first episode? I'm a sucker for suspense/thriller shows so I really wanted to give this one a chance, but there were so many cliches packed within the first 20 mins that I had to stop watching.

Yeah I would say the first episode was a pretty weak pilot, it gets more intense after that. If your not into the mockumentary style you won't like it, as it follows that throughout. There is no stand-out acting or stand out writing, but the episodes are entertain and the storyline is good enough that you want to see where it is heading.
Also missed last nights episode will catch up on that tonight.

Pretty good show, some of the acting is pretty bad, but overall it keeps you entertained and that's what its all about. I like the fact that each episodes has its own super natural plot involved.
But it borrows too much stuffs from Lost.
the sixth episode left you with pretty big suspense.
