Although I agree, welcome to how sic-fi always seems to work. But I did feel that the characters in Prometheus were especially frustrating. Also, I am not a fan of movies that raise more questions than they answer. Anyone else feel like that was the way Prometheus worked?

What did you expect from the writer of Lost? XD

They did that to make an obvious set up for another sequel. For the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Also, stupid characters is not a given in scifi movies. There are some really good ones like terminator 2 or total recall where you don't feel not one bit of idiocy from the majority of the characters. I can understand that you purposely include stupid people in movies in order to "create" a problem that the characters have to solve but prometheus went way overboard. People are disappointed and complaining for a reason. It's ok to have a mistake or a dumbass or two. Prometheus was just ridiculous.

I think that the sequel will be so much better as Damon Lindelof won't do the writing. I can only hope the the co-writer Jon Spaihts will not work with the sequel. With those two out of the picture I think that there is a chance for a logical and less chaotic story line.

The blu-ray/DVD has been leaked and so did some of the deleted scenes.

http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=26030&count=0

"Prometheus" is set to hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on October 11th, and will contain 23 minutes of extra footage. Today we have ten of those minutes, which equate to six deleted scenes.

The scenes don't show Michael Fassbender's full conversation with the Engineer or the final battle that was meant to be much longer. Instead, we learn a bit more about the characters, including their motivations.

enjoyed it for the actors and the first half was good, but after that the writing really fell apart, which really hurt me on a personal level.

Sheesh, as a researcher, i'd say believing that an answer is out there part of being a scientist..

Believing that an answer is out there is very different than believing something despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The character that ruined it for me was that boyfriend, Holloway? Either the actor was terrible, or, the script was a joke.

Had this been directed by Paul WS Anderson, I would have been mildly impressed.

For Ridley Scott, this movie is a disaster. I'd be embarrassed to have my name attached to it in any way.

You've got a point. It DOES seem more like something W.S. would do, character-wise. W.S. is also more about the spectacle and atmosphere, which is this movie in a nutshell. Damnedest thing.

Not that Ridley Scott has been impeccable before this, however. Ever since Blade Runner, Alien, and Conquest of Paradise, it's been a bumpy road. Gladiator was a spectacle wrapped around a bland story. Same for Kingdom of Heaven, although that film had a deeper message. But this... this is freaking Alien. You know? I'm just... surprised that it turned out the way it did.

To be frank, the advertising for this thing was retarded. They were advertising it as a return to the Alien of old.
Instead, we get a bad Sci-Fi movie. Unfortunately, their advertising was somewhat indirect on this, so it's unlikely they'll get sued, but still, that's fucking bullshit. I mean, you really shouldn't be able to pull shit like that. The worst part is that it was actually targeted at people who would hate this movie the most.

All in all the movie was dissapointing, although I have to give credit to its ability to constantly make me feel uncomfortable about the enviroment the characters move through.
The chair slowly turns around. You see his face, but it can't be. He's not supposed to be here. Not him. Not a Protoss. Not THAT Protoss. MC says, "Hi Greg, long time no see." You back slowly out of the booth. But you can't. It's already forcefielded.

I thought Prometheus was a really great movie for the sole fact that it made viewers actively think about the plot line, while at the same time presenting all the traditional aspects of a sci-fi horror. Sure, all of the cheesy aspects were present, the stupid paranoid guy who runs off alone, the fact that all of them were undergeared, etc. But that's standard in a lot of horror movies.

The more important film aspect is the subtlety of the real plot line, such as what the Engineers were really doing with these facilities in the first place. Another great plot twist is David's (the android's) hidden agenda. He really doesn't care for any human on the ship. He's more interested in the Engineers since they are, like him, intellectually superior.

By the end of the movie, they hint at the real plot line so even the most idiotic viewer can enjoy it's subtlety. So I don't really consider there to be any gaping holes meant to just confuse viewers, as previously remarked. The only confusing in the film is it's ending. But I personally love mysterious endings since they leaves things on a more interesting note. Tons of novels similarly end like this all the time, and I really enjoy them as a reader.
Oh, get a job? Just get a job? Why don't I strap on my job helmet, squeeze down into a job cannon, and fire off into job land, where jobs grow on jobbies!

Jesus christ, this was a great movie. What in the fuck were you guys watching? I enjoyed this movie very much. It was suspenseful, had an engaging story, and had very good themes about life in general. Perhaps many of you simply did not understand the whole plot. I will admit, however, that some of the characters may have behaved irrationally, but you have to understand that humans NEVER act rationally.
