In the tournament they took an $8 entry fee. With the donations people were asked to donate to a Fighting Is Magic branded page for the money to go towards the charity. Except this is not cash being paid towards Mane6 or Fighting is Magic. This is cash being wagered between participants in a tournament over their relative skills. The part where events like these are streamed and have ticket sales is of questionable legality, but just having a tournament with a prize pool? The medium used for a contest of skill doesn't matter in that way. The other case was just a donation drive which Mane6 was not involved in (or even aware of when it began) to determine which game EVO would have on stage.

Mane6 never received a cent of money. Mane6 never sold Fighting is Magic in any way in exchange for someone else receiving money. Having people pool their money to give to whoever is best at a game is not an exchange of money for the game.

There was money involved.

Big respect for Lauren Faust for trying to do something about it. Too bad even she is powerless. US copyrights make me sick:/

And they just shut it down for what? Feeling powerful? This game wouldn't done anything harmful to them... AFAIK creators haven't earned a cent from this game. And tournaments played for money? That's entirely different issue. SC2 community also has tournaments with various prices but Blizzard doesn't require us to pay tribute for participation in it. The most the company could have agreed to is a licensing agreement that says: "Mane6 pays nominal amount for use of MLP imagery etc and will NOT in any way try to profit from the game. Hasbro agrees to let it go on." Yeah, it's just a shame that the C&D was sent after so much work, not that I am saying Hasbro have done anything wrong here. Mane6 could have asked Hasbro early on if it would be okay or try to come to a licensing agreement.

Anyone else think that it would be much cooler if this episode and the previous one were swapped? So many random stuff going around that would be explained only on the following episode XD

I was actually thinking that this episode was going to be about the actual Equestria Games not the selection of the Equestria Games. I hope that have a sporting themed episode soon. I would love to see pony sports!!
