Has Poison Joke been discussed for as an opening episode? Well people mentioned that they really liked the ep and they think it can be a good starting episode, but beyond that, it hasn't actually been 'discussed'. I think + Show Spoiler + Flutterguy singing Pinkie's song But I'd like to hear as well what people would have against ep 9 as an introductory episode. + Show Spoiler + The curses changing them should not really be a problem since you do see them prior to that in their normal ways in the first half of the ep. | ||

Episode 9 is great, Pinkie's song and dance is win x 1000000 + Show Spoiler + Plus the ponies are motivated by fear in the first half of the episode not out of hatred of zebras. And lets face it Flutterguy was pretty funny, especially when Pinkie Pie gets her to sing the song. win x 10^999999 Also it is Appleblossom not Applebloom :D | ||

It wasn't until she was feeling the effects of the poison joke that she even began to be worried, and it took some convincing for her to think otherwise (an unexplainable curse). She didn't understand the warning and thought she got cursed (with some incorrectly interpreted evidence) and thus jumped to a conclusion, but she wasn't doing it for racist reasons or anything like that. | ||

Beyond that, the episode has a little bit of that wackiness that exist in most of our favorite episodes, but it's not the kind of wackiness that requires you to see previous episodes. Unlike Dragonshy, none of the characters come off as a drag -- they're active, even if its in the wrong way at first. And it's a funny episode. I think it could be a good contender, but I don't *know* until we see if other people see them as being biggoted or just ignorant-and-then-cured. Of course, maybe I'm underselling the amount that seeing the ponies flaws so much as a first episode will effect their perception of the series. Even if it does, though, is it a perception that is easier to overcome if the rest of the episode does a good job at getting them involved? That's the question. | ||
