My computer skills are sad.) I think the approach you two have to learning skills you want to be good at is a good one. Not having genious level innate talent shouldn't keep people from doing things they love. But some people, including me, get a little frustrated with things not coming to them as easily as for naturals (for me it was a reason I stopped playing SC2 - it was either Korea, or no playing ^^). Yes, it is pretty childish. Still, I do believe talent limits us a lot. Anyway your reasoning gives me motivation (as do ponies), so when I have time I'll try to learn more. Also, it's ridiculously fun whenever someone likes something you did. Pony! + Show Spoiler + ![]() Theres a button that says quote on the top right of a post. It'll prompt a new reply automatically. Also, Saurabhinator was right when he said this, drawing is super freaking frustrating. I spend half my time internally yelling at myself. It was no different when I was learning an instrument, learning SC:BW, learning SC2, etc etc. Of course I am super impatient and always super critical of my own stuff. I've quit my CSL's teams twice, quit out on my LoL team, gave up on playing trumpet a hundred times, nearly gotten ulcers and lost countless nights of sleep because of these things. Honestly though, this behavior is the worst for developing a skill. Why? because everyone gets frustrated when doing these things. It's a question of who can cope and push on. But if you don't want to deal with the frustration, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're "childish", "incapable", an "idiot" or anything like that, it simply means that the payout of personal enjoyment is not worth your personal willingness to put in work. This is perfectly fine, since they say the true meaning of happiness is actually "content and adjustment in what you are doing in life" rather than "doing what you think you enjoy in life". Just try to keep these things in mind whenever you want to restrict yourself by saying "I can't do it".

Check out page 1 which is at what skill level they started to page 65+ where they ended up. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=870 Sure it took a long time, but being good ata skill which is ultimately very difficult takes a lot of time. If you can't cope with frustration then drawing is probably not your thing. It is very frustrating and difficult, even I think at times why can't I get it right, I'll never be as good as the best, but I am practicing every day and noticing improvement. It's more of how much you enjoy seeing yourself improve, if you can't enjoy that then well it's going to be almost impossible to do.

New studies on the subject are published every year but the results have too little significance. Personally I believe talent plays a much larger role than people think, even though I wish we lived in a world where everyone could be anything. I think lack of talent keeps hundreds of TL members only wishing they could compete in Korea, or someone as tone deaf as I from playing guitar despite trying as a kid. Anyway, whatever its significance you're right in that everyone can improve. One pony who does not need to improve however is Celestia, because she awesome with Twi: ![]() Are you familiar with Athene? He's that really funny german internet guy who plays this super douchey troll character who thinks he's better than everybody. I know he does a bit of WoW stuff and always gets to get to max level first, I also saw a lot of SC2 stuff last time I checked out his youtube channel. Anyways his real project that he's been working on has been titled god is in the neurons, and it's about the scientific research him and a few others have been doing on the brain. There is a full documentary on it so don't take anything I say here briefly for too much but the studies show that anybody can learn anything through constant practice practice practice. Your neurons are always building, connecting and growing whenever you do something so it is possible for humans to become super ultra mega awesome at whatever they should choose or be compelled to do. In anthropological terms this makes much sense as there is no basis for "intelligence". Humans are put in any situation and learn to adapt and live and become stellar at whatever that may be. For instance if you were to put a Mbuti pygmy in new york he would have no chance just as you would have no chance catching the elephant in the congo region. Indeed we have pre-existing pathways that will allow us to do much more than we are aware of. If you're talking about starcraft and becoming the best at that by practice practice practice, well that's probably not going to happen given the volatile state it's in, but more so the fact that there are many other people who do the same. The korean practice times in their houses are crazy, and it's still not as difficult as it was in BW. I don't think that anybody can possibly be the best at anything though, others will always rival, times change, people die, or more people can collaboratively work together and oust you.

Athene is not German. I think he's french, but not really sure.

As for the discussion of how people become skilled, it really depends on which theory of mind you believe in if you start to discuss the finer points. Unfortunately I am not able to because whenever I go into this thread I talk about ponies, so ponies!

Now that she has the pattern down she's going to make a bunch of other characters too. She's also - at my suggestion - developing some starcraft plushies that I'll post elsewhere soon, starting with banelings, overlords, drones and probes (she really likes zerg). There are prototype ponies and banelings all over my room. OH GOD I WANT A BANELING ehm, I mean, no problem at all man! ![]()

It's not really 'live' yet because she's still developing them. The banelings in particular are going to be more like the middle one of the three pictured there and a smaller cheaper one. Anyway when they're ready they're going to go up there. I think right now she's building main-cast 15" ponies, then a 50" pony, then back to the starcraft guys. But if you order one she'll make it for you right away.
