No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.
Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers. |

Dexter, The Wire, Scrubs, Community, Arrested Development, Spartacus, The Boondocks, etc.

It's interesting that, according to the video, the show initially gained popularity amongst older males due to people wanting to be ironic, rather than them thinking the show would be genuinely good. Can any MLP fans comment on this? I'm not saying that it's wrong to like the show - I'm just curious about what MLP fans have to say about the idea that the show gained popularity from people trying to be ironic.
I think he meant that it was ironic to like MLP because that article used it as a focal point to show why cartoons are now terrible, not that people were attempting to be ironic.
And from my perspective: The reason why it is popular isn't important. It could have become popular because it was the only show that they would allow in US prisons and it wouldn't change any of the reasons why I like it.

That was the reaction I had, and the reaction most male viewers of the series had when we were introduced as well. Surprisingly, some would argue shockingly, the main demographic that watches MLP are males aged 15-35. Thats right,
i dont find that so surprising. sailor moon, powerpuff girls, totally spies, card captors, hamtaro, etc were all aimed at little girls but they were all popular enough that both male/female of many age groups watched it.
so even tho the show is aimed at little girls does not mean males will not watch it.

I can't believe it took this long for an MLP thread to finally show up here on Team Liquid. Good on ya bronies!

It follows the same formula of the realy old good shows, like PPG, Johnny Bravo and Dexter Laboratory, you can even see similarity in the animation style of Samurai Jack and My Little Ponies.

yup which explains why it became so popular so fast. my little pony is something that could have failed epically or became a great success depending on who is behind it. in this case it was a success because some very talented people knew what they were doing.
a pile of shit can be turned into a pile of golden shit if u gut magic hands.
and ya i loved fosters! and i still watch powerpuff girls whenever i see that its on from time to time. which goes to show u that these ppl know what they are doing.

People always mention PPG and Foster's because of Faust, but I think it's also worth mentioning that a lot of the great and wacky facial animation comes from the Ed, Edd and Eddy animators who moved to this show. There are writers from Dexter's Laboratory aboard as well. The voice actresses have pretty impressive resumes and are some of the best in the business for cartoons. Overall it's probably got one of the most talented teams in all of cartoons working on it right now, and the show has a pretty serious budget behind it. The fact that it's done in Flash does save money in the animation area, but character animations seem to be entirely keyframed and thus look far better than most Flash cartoons.

Ok I watched an entire episode, I don't care who made it or why.
This is just weird, I don't care if people watch it. Not for me though, have fun watching My Little Pony fellows.

The talent behind the show is definitely impressive. The voice actors enlisted are top notch as well, e.g. Twilight is voiced by the same person who did Rikku in FFX.

I hope season 2 turns out well considering how they sidelined Faust. Here's to hoping

Wow I somehow managed to completely miss episode 19. No clue how that could have happened. Watching it now.

This thread has completely confused my idea of people on the internet.
People on the internet are: Brave Assholes who like to swear/curse/taunt you.... and nothing is off limits, mothers, sisters, friends, retarded kids,...
and then there is this thread...
a thread of grown ass men talking about My Little Pony...
mind officially blown.... I have lost my understanding of the internetz and its inhabitants...
enjoy your show tho. Lol if you enjoy it, do it, who gives a shit what any1 else thinks imo.

That's the point of the "Brony" community. The epic irony.
Btw, for those talking about the crew. Faust also made KND iirc.
