+ Show Spoiler +The episode really floored me from the start, then slowed down after the raw unbridled random awesome it started out with but transitioned into pure epic, then more awesome. I loved the pace, story, setting, visuals, and creativity that went into this episode. If this is any indication, season 2 will surpass season 1 in every conceivable way.

Alright, now its a week for the continuation.
+ Show Spoiler [S02E01] +- CutieMark Crusaders awaken Discord with their fighting. Maybe they get a cutiemark for that.
- Applejack actually has corn on Sweet Apple Acres, who'd tell!
- Massive chaos in general: Cotton-candy clouds raining chocolate milk, ultra-high little critters and massive popcorns
- Trollestia introduces the concept of Discord and how she and Luna defeated him, when he ruled Equestria before them, trolling pretty much every fanfic writer that touched the subject.
- Trollestia gets Trolled by Discord.
- Mane 6 go to a labyrinth to find the elements of harmony.
- Discord nerfs everypony into Earthponies.
- And then separates all six in the labyrinth just as they say "together we are invincible!", epic trolling
- Discord then proceeds to revert every Element of Harmony: Applejack starts to lie, Rarity becomes selfish, Pinkie Pie becomes angry, Fluttershy gets h4xed into hatred, Rainbow Dash loses her loyalty to her friends in order to save her home town.
- Rainbow Dash breaks Discord's rules, causing them all to lose The Game(that is, they remembered it, so they lost. J/K LOL)
- To be continued
Conclusion: Celestia lost her throne of biggest Troll of all time, even though she tried really hard this time.

I can't wait to see what else they'll have in store for the rest of the season. I think it is going to surpass everyone's expectations, no matter how unrealistically high they are. if they can keep up with this level of quality and coolness, there will be a lot more new bronies incoming as they'll be a lot easier to convert with better introductory eps lying around
also Daniel Ingram didn't change the theme song (which I don't mind as much, since I dig it now, but still, for new converts it would've been nice if it had been changed. oh well. it actually adds that much more contrast though, haha)

It's similar to how the first two episodes of seasons 1 was pacewise. Comparing nightmare moon and discord, while nightmare moon looks cool and discord looks weird, he's just more interesting overall but that's probably because he interacts way more with the cast then nightmare moon did. Overall I gotta say discord is a better villain.

I was incredibly worried about the show's second season, but that just blew my already high expectations out of the water. It was so epic.

Yeah, that's really what wowed me the most about the episode. Being such a hardcore brony, I had some ludicrous expectations for the season, but part of me didn't think they'd be met because they were so high (realism ftl). But, this season really looks like it's going to surpass almost everypony's expectations.
Hasbro has my mad respect for letting the MLP crew do this. I'm glad they realize what this fanbase is and it's so nice to see them allowing the crew developing the show to keep the awesome train rolling.

+ Show Spoiler [Review of S2E1] +Okay, time to post some thoughts on this episode. This won't be as refined as I'd like as I skipped the night's sleep (damn you, StarCraft tournaments!), so I apologize for that.
The level of random ape-shitted-ness that the episode blugeons you in the face with almost immediately is, I think, unparalelled from the first season. When the insanity finally ends and we're left reeling from how awesome it was, the show smoothly transitions into pure, nerd chill-inducing epicness.
Now before I get into the second half of the episode, I have to say that the visuals were incredible. The shots of Canterlot were amazing and throughout the episode we were treated to some of the best visuals seen so far in MLP.
Also, something that cannot be ignored, is the meme potential. You can really tell that us bronies are definitely getting some fanservice (chocolate rain). Hopefully we see Luna again, especially after she was mentioned a lot, and hopefully they don't overdo the fanservice. Stuff like that chocolate rain is incredible when done correctly, which so far, it has been.
On to the second part. The epic Harry Potter maze was a great touch. I loved how they really built up Discord and had him interact with the mane cast, turning them over to the "dark side". With only Twilight left, things looks pretty much as bleak as they possibly could. Rainbow Dash flying off like that doesn't help much, either. I love how his wiles were portrayed as drug-esque illusions unique to each pony's personality and how he manipulated them. Him showing a hint of how extensive and insane his power really is when he just said "fuck it" when his tricks weren't working on Fluttershy was also a nice touch.
All in all, I'd say this episode should blow expectations out of the water. Personally, it's not my favourite episode. That title will probably stay with episode 16, simply because it was the first one to deeply strike an emotional chord with me and it was the episode that turned me into a hardcore brony.
If this episode is any indication, season 2 will likely surpass the first in every conceivable way. I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the MLP team over in BC (my home province!) and to Hasbro for giving them so much freedom with their show. Something truly awesome has been created and I'm very grateful to Hasbro for not ruining it.

i like the idea of discord being evil just for fun, the revenge aspect of luna always seemed... lame and vanilla to me. I think discord is much more interesting. i wonder if he will have any part after episode 2. i would guess not though.

This episode basically confirmed to me that + Show Spoiler +Fluttershy is the best pony. She's so pure she can't even be corrupted by words alone, it has to be external influence or supernatural means. Discord is a fantastically evil villain, I only wish there was less blatantly evil laughing. It should be a laugh of enjoyment and happiness. He doesn't directly want evil, only a lack of harmony, so why should it be an evil laugh? He's enjoying himself, he's *happy*.

Oh, and has anyone here read "Ask Pinkamena Dianne Pie"? If you haven't, you'll have to Google it, 'cause not all the posts are SFW and I don't want to post a link :/ Basically it's a comic of Cupcakes Pinkie taking questions from readers and the author drawing comics of her responding, and doing stuff. I really liked the most recent comic, it gives a bit more of a window into Pinkamena's emotional state.
