SPOILER WARNING If you only watch the show, this thread will spoil you of future events in HBO's Game of Thrones. Thread contains discussion of all books of the series A Song of Ice and FireClick Here for the spoiler-free thread. |
Because it's now possible to question Jon's parentage without citing the books. Before, Ned and Robert discussed Jon's whore mother in Ep. 2 and Jon's parentage was largely irrelevant from then on, with this episode there is actually show citations that can be made and Jon's parentage may become a plot point again.

That's not even remotely how it works. You can't go to the other thread and start to "guess" stuff based from hints you know that are hints. You might as well go there and start guessing how Cersei arming the Sparrows will be her downfall. The hints are all over the place, but you know what they mean. It's downright stupid to pretend to guess things you know will happen.

But is R+J=L confirmed anywhere yet? It could be like a show spoils it for you book readers type Night's King thing.

It's book speculation that is the source for "speculation" in the other thread, which is very explicitly forbidden in that thread.

So, they've killed one of the best characters on a really bad off-book scene. Oh, well. At least I hope this is not a spoiler for WoW...
|
Well, thankfully the TV only thread is diverging into a Robert + Lyanna = Jon instead of Rhaegar + Lyanna = Jon theory. And they're actually coming up with interesting evidence to support that, i.e. Melisandre's interest in Jon (as a bastard of king Robert).
Hooray for vague letter references : D

My non-booking reading friend thinks the same exact thing as Dudeman001 said.
This isn't really important, but is Stannis implying that the Dornish doll is what gave Shireen Grayscale? Wow wtf lol. Really liked that "Daaaaaaw" scene.
Also, I quite agree that the introduction of the Sand Snakes sucked. I was also imagining Tyene looked...... diferrent.

WTF how are they gonna kill Barristan the Bold? They're just adding random shit for no reason while leaving out solid plot lines. I can accept no Quentyn and even no Victarion but the fact that there's no Aegon is a pretty big spoiler in itselff Imprisoning Loras i dont get at all. Sansas plot just has me confused at this point. Jaime to Dorne doesn't make sense to me as it's likely to lead nowhere unless they're also changing what happens to Myrcella. I'm sad the golden company and the kingsmoot are out. Briennes story looked like it was going somewhere but now she's just wandering around like in the books. Dorne and Greyjoys are both really screwed up at this point.
If they make any more major changes my head may explode.

You need to just let it ride bro, the show makes perfect sense if you aren't trying to shoehorn it into what you know in the books or what you think is important in the books.

The show has begun dropping pretty heavy hints, but I think most people will still miss them. Even though Stannis' line about Ned not being likely to cheat is a big giveaway.
That being said, most people in the TV thread are indeed assuming that Robert + Lyanna = Jon. That's fair. What bothers me is a few posters are outright saying "R+L = J", which is a book-reader quote 180%. No Unsullied is going to watch that episode and theorize that Raeghar and Lyanna are Jon's father precisely in the manner used by book readers for years.
That means that they're either book readers, or they've looked up the theory. Either way, I think anyone who actually uses the expression "R+L = J" should have their post removed.
edit: oh yeah I had not looked at your links. That guy should be banned.

Kadaver is our own sand snake.

R+L=J is hyped to a point that fans will most likely be upset if it turns out to be true. Because we knew all along like in some shit B-level soap opera.

There is no way that R+L =/= J at this point.

Well ... probability of R+L = J given they are his parents and ignoring mutations is roughly 1 out of 100 000 000 000 000. It would be slightly higher given the interbreeding of the Targaryens, but still: R+L=/=J most of the time.

I'm not 100% about R+L=J. His theories are a bit over-the-top, but Preston Jacobs has a series on arguing R+L=Danny and Jon is the child of Ashara Dane+Brandon Stark. Interesting stuff
