I can understand having so many characters from GRRM's narrative perspective, trying to emulate history and whatnot (since History is built up by mostly small actions by lots of different people). However this approach does not translate well to media outside written media. The TV series has to juggle a budget, people's short attention spans and it's own creative vision of the story when writing the scripts. Of course the result is going to be different from the books.

In any case all this bitching about an unfinished cast for an unfinished series based on unfinished books seems a bit over the top at the moment. Just wait and see.
