I actually really really enjoyed the Sansa chapters. Maybe it was because all the other Sansa chapters I hated, and maybe I'm hoping too optimistically for an epic arrival of the Vale army rallied under the "thought to be dead" Sansa Stark.
And Cersei chapters were like watching someone run into every pothole, stub their toe onto every wooden table leg, put their foot into every puddle, and slip on every banana peel. Was so delightful to read.

Brienne and Samwell were kinda boring. But both of their last chapters were one of the most memorable ones too.

I thought the books got quite boring near the end. Either because the wars were over or because the characters that interested me more had died or been removed from the action. It just seemed like there was much more filler compared to the 2 first books which were action-packed.
The new book will have 2 big battles so that sounds very promising.

They're gonna take a massive knife to book 4 (and parts of book 5) IMO. There's no way they're gonna let the show slip to the pacing of AFFC.

That was amazing, thanks :D

It has been suggested that the biggest problem is that some of the feast for crows new character intro chapters should have been moved to Storm of swords, and some of the action of storm of swords should have been moved to feast.
I think both feast and dance suffer from only having half the cast in each of them, and having a bunch of new PoV that you just aren't going to care about as much. Feast was definitely a step back from Storm of Swords, but when I recently got the audio books and re-listened to feast and I liked it better than I did when I first read it.
The Dorne story line so far has been the most disappointing as far as time spent on it vs pay off to me. You get the temporary pay off where you find out Doran was planning on marrying Arianne to Viserys, and now was trying to match Quentyn with Dany where it looks like it will all tie together at the end of Feast, then the Quentyn plan fails miserably in Dance and leaves you wondering what the point of it all was. Prior to this season I thought it was possible the show might cut Dorne all together given their history of cutting minor character's. Dorne requires a lot of cast and screen time for a story that ultimately has gone no where so far.

Everything greyjoy on books 4 and 5 is great Dorne was good, but Arianne+Areo would've been enough, Oakheart was a waste of a pov Sansa and Jaime great Arya and Cersei were OK Sam and Brienne were boring
Book 5 you could axe Tyrion and Dani and I wouldn't mind

Book 5 you could axe Tyrion and Dani and I wouldn't mind I would mind. Part about him and the dwarf girl were both cute and fun. It almost felt like the girl being both his child and little sister at times. He also had a chance to show another parts of him now that Lannister gold and power were not at hand. It also showed us that Tyrion is probably the kindest living noble in Westeros (well not counting Sam who is Black Brother now).

Man, all these book readers giving out detailed backstories of major characters in the other thread, pretending it's common knowledge..
|
Not really spoilers or anything though - also, maybe they just saw the history from the HBO extras.
|
There also was a series of "History of Game of Thrones" posts on Imgur, which I assume a decent number of people frequent.

Which posts are you referring to?
I posted about several characters in the other thread, but I was very careful to only mention details that were shown in the show.

that was pretty funny. GRRM complaining about not getting enough sex haha
Interesting insight into the editing/publishing world. I didn't realize when it was written at first.. I wonder how things have changed in the past 30 years

It's just a pet peeve of mine, I guess. You shouldn't explain the motivation of a show character through information about the book character. The prime example of why this is a bad idea is Shae.
In this case I'm genuinely curious, though. Did Jorah ever talk about his past other than that one line in that one episode in the first season? Is there any other non-book information about his past one could get?
|
I see the post you're referring to.
The answer is no. Jorah mentioned he was married, and told very little to Dany about it.
The dialogue goes something like
Dany: "You sold slaves." Jorah: "Aye." Dany: "Why?" Jorah: "I had no money, and an expensive wife." Dany: "Where is she now?" Jorah: "In another place. With another man."
As far as I recall, that is ONLY mention of Lynesse (Jorah's wife) in the show. He never told anything more about it. So, the person who made that post does seem to be a book reader, and is telling more than GoT has shown.
edit: Even the show's wiki seems to mention very little about it. http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Jorah_Mormont

Oh man, I really want to reread all the books again suddenly. Worth waiting for the next book and then buying it as a set?
|
Next book won't be out until 2015 (at the earliest).

Just don't post anything if you've read the books. I honestly don't get how that is so dificult. The warning at the top of the thread is quite clear.
