SPOILER WARNING If you only watch the show, this thread will spoil you of future events in HBO's Game of Thrones. Thread contains discussion of all books of the series A Song of Ice and FireClick Here for the spoiler-free thread. |
Hmm I agree with the general sentiment that the cliff-hook for the next episode will either be Uncat or coldhands, though I'd prefer they stretched out the effects of a dead character a little longer for re: uncat so I'm hoping coldhands.
The preview seems to have a big focus on Bran so coldhands is a possibilty, even if he doesn't meet Sam. It might be more interesting instead if Bran makes his way there and is met by an army of undead and are like "...oh shit..." and then Coldhands + 1,000 ravens tear into them.
Other expectations from the preview: - Aftermath of course. Blackfish will escape, though I hope they don't use his "swim down the river" scene and hold it off for Riverrun. Probably also see Edmure restrained or something. - Balon greyjoy dies: hence Yara scene. Might play into Theon's scene also. I think, like the books, they won't show Balon's death because it's meant to be pretty vague (faceless men / Euron) - Melisandre will continue to convince Stannis of the power in king's blood and probably hint towards the stone dragon (which I don't think has been mentioned at all right?) - Dany lines up to conquer next city. - Ygritte tracks John and shoots him with the arrow. I was so disappointed that scene was missed, so they better include it next ep. - Jamie has a bit of a nothing scene. - Arya and Hound have a bit of a nothing scene...maybe...I think there's potential the Hound takes his wound in the next episode, though I'd prefer to see them travel for a while. - Lots of Tywin, Tyrion and Joffrey talking about plots, Sansa being a virgin still, and related shizz. I'm hoping they mention the Martells as wedding guests or something to setup some Martell stuff.
Think that's about it.
Agree with ideas for next season: purple wedding early, tywin + shae as ep9, probably viper vs clegane ep8 or something around there. Need to actually get to know the viper first, and honestly I think having him there for the wedding might be important as a red herring of suspicion.

watching reaction videos are still gold lmao

Haha the reaction from my friends was pretty much the opposite. We all read the books and hated that Talisa character so her death was met with essentially instant high fives.
...such nerds.

I can understand that. I didn't like Talisa either.
But I didn't like that her death confirmed the unimportance of Jeyne, and ended the theory of her potentially having Robb's child. Not that I was a big believer in her theory, but its fun to have weird options like that exist in the book, because you can never be certain what GRRM will do with them.
Also, the fact that Robb brought Talisa to the Frey's wedding, risking their offense, made him look that much stupider.

According to the Conan O'Brien interview Martin claimed the show could deviate in its ending from his books. If that's the case, trying to predict future character developments from the show would be questionable at best. Has Martin contradicted his comments in that interview previously?
|
Martin also said there were 4 characters which died in the show that are still alive in the books? Anyone knows which ones he's referring to?

Correct me if i'm wrong: -The guy that Khal Drogo killed in the epic fight in the series, where he got his cut in the chest, he didn't die in the books, and -meets her again in ADWD in her last chapter. -Both hand maiden of Dany? (1 confirmed dead, 1 in the safe locked up with Xaro Xhoan Daxos) (-Ros (Based on the red-headed whore in the books?) <--This one might not been the one that he meant) -Xaro Xhoan Daxos unconfirmed dead and Pyat Pree might be dead for real this time.

I don't really think anything in the show "proves" anything in future books regarding Jeyne. Not that there is anything definitive to say Jeyne was pregnant in the first place, but if she was, the kid could die, or just be overall irrellevant to the end plot. Jhaqo was killed by Drogo in the show, and is alive in book 5 in the books. Both Irri and Jhiqui are alive in the books and dead in the show. Xaro is presumably dead in the show and has a role in book 5. And even if he some how escaped his vault, his character on the show doesn't match up well with the role he plays in book 5. It's argueably a bigger change that Robb didn't name Jon as his heir in front of all his lords prior to his death.

He may not have in the books either. We don't know that he had. He only discussed it with Catelyn.

Oh, I completely forgot about that. Yeah, that seems indeed like a major change.

He dies in the bear pit which would have happened by now so I think it's ok

Seriously? I thought her death was pretty damn brutal, it shocked me and my reader friends.
On Amory Lorch: He's dead in show, killed by Jaqen H'ghar at the behest of Arya.

there isn't a 1:1 relationship between the books and the tv show. GRRM has talked about how characters killed off in the show, but are still alive in the books, can cause a great deal of divergence

They can, but I'll bet you that they won't. They're not going to branch out and draw up a parallel storyline just for the show to any major extent. It's going to mount up to a couple of altered scenes or different characters performing some trivial tasks/roles in place of the dead ones, etc.
They're probably only saying things like that to keep the suspense and interest among the book readers.

I hope episode 10 will include Joffrey's full reaction to Robb's death, specifically the dialogue where he demands Robb's head be brought to the royal wedding so that he can have Sansa kiss it.
EDIT

I'm pretty sure it will. And I'm hoping that the speech that Tywin gives him is verbatim to the books. I'm hoping it will be because the speech he gave Tyrion about why he won't give him Casterly Rock was verbatim to the books IIRC.
