Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book.

I found the storytelling and characters good and there was plenty of action. Most ppl here seemed to think season 5 so far is OK? Consensus seems to be that it's the best season since 1. However, the mid season finale was bad.

Good to know. Just read the last two pages and the talk was about abandoning ship on the series, and how the series gets run into the ground, and how a 80% Walking is still okay in comparison to other TV shows and how it was a filler season (if it was a filler season I don't care, plz no Comic spoilers). I agree with you that it was the best season so far. Carol alone would have made the season but the rest is also pretty good. Rick is nothing short of amazing and Tyrese is really stealing the show. And I also actually liked the end of the mid-season finale. From what I heard the Beth-Dawn interaction got a lot of negative feedback. But to be honest it was not that bad. Beth's action did not make sense, but that's the whole point imo. I think she was in love with Noah. So she was a teenage girl who was about to get robbed of her first love. She was overly happy when things looked like they would work out and then in one second everything changes and she would actually never see him again. So given these circumstances it is not unrealistic that a teenager might act completely unreasonable and impulsive. And for Dawn, what she did - demanding Noah back despite having obviously no moral justification for this - made sense from her standpoint. She felt that people were talking about how she does not get the job done and was not tough enough. So she felt like she needed to get something more out of the deal. Her character was built up the entire season to make her feel the pressure to act tough and to get things done. So she gambled on getting Noah back - and it would have actually worked if it wasn't for Beth.

What irks me the most is forced drama all the time, be it due to people acting irrationally or outright stupid, or deus ex machina stealthy ninja zombies coming out of nowhere. The only reason I'm still here is because I like zombies and theorycrafting what to do in a zombie apocalypse. I just wonder when people say Walking Dead isn't a good show what shows they are thinking are better?

I don't know about others but for me there are many. Out of those that are running at same time there is Game of Thrones, Marco Polo, Fargo, House of Cards and Vikings as top tier shows. I also have more fun watching Arrow, Flash and Agents of Shield and Continuum as mid tier ones. Also different short shows like Sherlock, Utopia and Black Mirror are better.

Compared to Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad or Six Feet Under the show is meh at best. There are countless plotholes, the story at times makes no sense, some of the characters aren't very well developed, the acting is just okay for the most part, the writing can be awkward, etc. Then again, The Walking Dead doesn't try to be a high quality show like the ones I just mentioned in the first place. It has a much lower budget (presumably), and in the end it's a bloody comic book adaption. And you wouldn't compare a comic book to a novel, either, so the comparison is a bit unfair. It makes more sense to compare the show to other action shows/comic book adaption like Agents of Shield or Arrow. And in that case, The Walking Dead is one of the best shows out there, hands down. You don't just have a series of action scenes, but characters interacting with each other, you have meaningful conversations, drama, all the good stuff. So in the end it's all about what you compare the show to.

I guess taste has a lot to do with it. I can't stand most network TV since it is usually pg-13 at best (usually closer to PG). I prefer shows not distorted so you can watch them with kids. For instance, a show with violence that doesn't even have blood, kills all suspension of disbelief for me. I'll have to try some of those shows before I render an opinion on them but I think it would be fair to say Walking Dead is the best Zombie show ever though. I really wanted to like Mad Men but that show is shit compared to WD imo (entertainment wise).

People actually watch Marco Polo? The acting/writing is hilariously bad (though it is top tier at wasting a huge budget). Love all the other stuff besides what you call mid-tier. TWD is entertaining and I'll agree it's not top tier but it does have its moments. MP barely has a pulse.
