Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

They only turn when they die completely, not from scratches/bites.
Hershel could die if the leg wasn't cut off due to severe blood loss and/or infection.
I'm just gonna pretend you didn't post this

Hirschell NO!!! how will they deliver the unborn child!

Yes they are all infected dying in anyway turns you into a zombie exception being destroyed brain. A zombie bite is full of bacteria and infection since they don't have bags of antibiotics laying around you have to amputate or you will probably die from the resulting infection.

Was a pretty great episode! I'm sure Hershel will survive, he's pretty badass now!

Well they could mask the scent of human. But if you look closely they're carrying 2 extra bags for her along with the pack she carries with her. Just looking like they're being used to carry more supplies for her.

Meh, I thought cutting off the leg was to stop the infection/venom/whatever spreading (like a snake bite)?
They did a similar thing in Day of the Dead back in the day.

It is (kinda).
Zombies bites/scratches in this show are very infectious and cause people to get sick and die, then reanimate. Cutting off the limb prevents whatever infection there was from spreading and causing the victim to get sick.
|
They always do the same mistake, it was so silly :D
|
But they need cut off the limb basically right after they were bit or it's "too late" and they'll die regardless. And even if they do cut it off early, they may still die due to blood loss.
|
They cut the leg off because the infection from the bite (not "zombie virus", but other festering viruses and bacteria) would have surely killed hershel given the lack of medical care. Far easier to treat a clean wound from an amputation that doesn't have the shit from the bite on it/in it than hope that an old man, already weakened from malnutrition and exhausation, would be able to fight off the diseases*
*not a doctor and knows little of medicine

Season 2 was a complete disaster imo (no pun intended) but this season is starting a little better. However... superhero mode activated when they were in the yard fighting loads of zombies, and just then they all go retarded inside the prison... wtf?
And I hope they don't stay in the prison this whole season just like they did with the farm in season 2... maaaan that killed this show totally for me.
I like the black ninja woman however! More swords are needed!

In the yard they had plenty of space to maneuver and had the natural daylight. In the prison they were packed into a tight corridor and had flashlights. I'd say it would be a hell of a lot more difficult to fight of a horde of zombies in the second situation.

More or less. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be a "zombie virus" but it's a severe infection that essentially spells death for the one who's been bitten. Which, in turn, leads to them turning because they're pretty much guaranteed to die.
So, you cut off the leg to try and prevent the infection from spreading to the entire body. You could still die from the blood loss, but at least you tried to save the life instead of letting the person eventually die via infection.

If Rick's wife and kid were dead I bet the show would be 100% more fun.

+ Show Spoiler +Hate to be the bearer of bad news. They will be in the prison for awhile, they were in the prison longer than on the farm in the comics.

They'd have to venture out of the prison eventually to search for supplies. Even if they live there, as long as it isn't depicting them at the prison 99% of the time it should be okay. One of the best episodes of the show in season 2 came from just searching for supplies.

Prison wont be too bad, it's actually probably the best arc of the comic. We'll get some decent character development and a pretty awesome villain.

Looks like he wants some action with the blonde farm girl LOL.

This is probably the best episode since the amazing series premiere. I'm glad they got away from all the existential bull shit for a bit. Yeah we get it, life is hard in a post-apocalyptic zombie and humans will struggle with concepts of leadership, humanity, decency, blah blah blah. The Walking Dead never did this kind of stuff well though. It was always hamfisted and wooden. What they do well is Zombies. Also, killing Zombies. I enjoyed this hour.
