They fell off for a bit but their last album was a solid return to form. Plus, black metal hoedown, seriously.
Yeah I'm familiar with their sound and existence, even saw them live once. I just don't really care too much for black metal at this point, I don't need to deliberately listen to it, haha.

weakling - dead as dreams is my favorite album, while black sabbath (ozzy, duh) is my favorite band (though i certainly have nothing against dio!) today i listened to Absu - Barathrum V.I.T.R.I.O.L...easily one of my favorite metal albums. any other fans?
at IEM katowice i heard jarrett cale mention that socke enjoys death metal and the like. anybody know anything about this, or has socke talked about this somewhere? just curious
Nice taste homie Absu are dope, saw them live once too.
Socke's taste in Metal is pretty normal from what I know. Machine Head and the likes. Goody digs Amon Amarth etc., and I know that Hasu is a pretty big Sabaton fan.
I wanted to show you guys this emerging prog metal project, Dahlian. The whole 'Dividual' EP is on this YouTube channel.
It's a one man project, so electric and acoustic guitars, bass, clean and death vocals, programmed drums and cello (!) are all done by the same guy. Enjoy!
Wow, this Dahlian project is awesome! Can't wait for the release at 14.02.13 I'm glad I bumped onto this thread :D

Yeah I don't listen to much black metal myself anymore. I've been on a huge melodeath streak recently, mostly just because of Anata haha. Also +1 to the At The Gates bootleg

Wow that's awesome to hear. I'm sorry to disappoint that the release date was actually a mistake in the description. Release was on January, 14th and only digital. So it's on Soundcloud and Youtube and Facebook. If you would like to support the stuff, go like it on facebook.com/dahlianmusic and drop the guy a line on his wall. I know he'll be happy : )
And to you and everyone else: I'm actually partly running the Dissolved Arts Youtube page. I'd be happy if you guys subscribe to it, just to help spreading the word. Just so you know, I'm not trying to achieve anything with it besides sharing the music I love, supporting the (unknown) artists, and making obscure (demo) releases and bootlegs accessible for everyone.
In case anyone hasn't heard the newest The Faceless album, Autotheism, give it a try, or rather, a few tries, as this is by far the best metal album I have ever heard and single handedly immersed me into the realm of progressive and technical death metal:

Honestly I considered myself a Faceless fan until the new release. Akeldama was pretty good, if a bit too deathcore-influenced in its sound, while Planetary Duality I found to be quite excellent, chock full of memorable sections without any of it feeling convoluted. Their latest release however seems to be a very generic yet pretentious new school tech death romp (even though they sound more like Veil of Maya or Periphery than actual tech death) like they just said "wow you guys we're so brooding and deep, come see how artsy we are". Basically it feels like they're trying too fucking hard to be "progressive" for the sake of being progressive.
However, if you're interested in a modern tech death band that can also write proper, interesting, memorable songs, look no further than Beyond Creation:
Probably my favorite show from 2012. I have seen them in Paris personally, not in London, but still, this is a great video, wonderful quality. It was a stunning performance, from what is probably one of my favorite death metal bands. It was so good to see them, I'm giggling like a little girl just thinking about it.
People appreciating the band will love the video, and for people willing to discover these masters, this is a good starting point too considering of how good they are live.

I really love the music on the album, but I found that the lyrics got a little annoying. I was really into bashing religion just for the sake of bashing religion when I was a freshman in high school, but I feel like I've grown out of it. So the fact that pretty much all of the album's lyrics follow the whole, "religion is illogical" theme just seems a little tired and unoriginal to me.
