I love you for everything but Kalmah and Arch Enemy. Gallery, Lunar Strain and WFIKTBD are among the best musical collections known to man, however.

i've never been overly keen on melodeath, but that's definitely some solid stuff posted. much love for Dissection as well, that's probably my favorite in that category, though they're perhaps more black metal than other melodeath bands

any GRIEF fans? although i don't think doom/sludge is my metal subgenre of choice, this band epitomizes metal for me. Dismal is absolutely one of my favorite recordings ever. i feel like it's the audio equivalent of someone being beaten to death with a brick in slow motion. fvkking metal

Haha watchu talkin' 'bout willis? Kalmah's first 3 albums fucking rule. Arch Enemy in the Liiva-era are pretty solid as well, definitely better than the generic, formulaic, mediocre and boring Angela-era albums.

I like DT's Gallery a lot, but as far as In Flames' discography is concerned, I'm personally of the opinion that Jester Race fucking rules everything else, with Whoracle and Subterranean being close behind and Lunar Strain in 4th maybe.

I didn't like Maha Kali / Reinkaos that much to be honest, though I'm a big fan of their black metal stuff. Anyway my previous post is in no way, shape or form a comprehensive list on melodeath nor are they my favourite songs ever, just some stuff I felt was underrated and not that well known. ^^

A friend noticed an unfortunate lack of old school sick ass-ripping thrash in these last few pages, alas here I am to correct this ^^.

I'll add an emerging Swedish Power Metal band that was awesome both times I saw them live: Sabaton. Lyrics are (almost?) all about war history, which is pretty cool, too.

Forgot to mention I saw Sabaton live just a few weeks ago with Nightwish, They were really entertaining (plus music and vocals match my taste) so I'll be sure to listen to them some more too :D

It's technical sure, but also crammed with incredible melodies. Not to mention awesome, groovy, and crushing riffs with death metal vocals that rival some of the greats in the genre (like Amon Amarth). I'd classify it as progressive technical melodic death metal. There is no melodeath I've heard with as much depth as Anata.

I see. As stated above, I'm quite radical when it comes to the melodeath classification. For me, no real melodeath exists beyond the timeframe of 1990 - 2000.



Sick German melodeath. I love them so much.

Don't think I've properly given Grai some love in this thread yet. Absolutely stunning Russian Folk Metal, excellent harmonies, melodic, and great drumming. The guitar plays a very supportive role rather than the usual role where the guitar plays through all songs. Some of the best songwriting I've seen.
