any GRIEF fans? although i don't think doom/sludge is my metal subgenre of choice, this band epitomizes metal for me. Dismal is absolutely one of my favorite recordings ever. i feel like it's the audio equivalent of someone being beaten to death with a brick in slow motion. fvkking metal

Haha watchu talkin' 'bout willis? Kalmah's first 3 albums fucking rule. Arch Enemy in the Liiva-era are pretty solid as well, definitely better than the generic, formulaic, mediocre and boring Angela-era albums. I like DT's Gallery a lot, but as far as In Flames' discography is concerned, I'm personally of the opinion that Jester Race fucking rules everything else, with Whoracle and Subterranean being close behind and Lunar Strain in 4th maybe. ![]() On January 25 2013 16:55 Srontgorrth wrote: i've never been overly keen on melodeath, but that's definitely some solid stuff posted. much love for Dissection as well, that's probably my favorite in that category, though they're perhaps more black metal than other melodeath bands I didn't like Maha Kali / Reinkaos that much to be honest, though I'm a big fan of their black metal stuff. Anyway my previous post is in no way, shape or form a comprehensive list on melodeath nor are they my favourite songs ever, just some stuff I felt was underrated and not that well known. ^^ A friend noticed an unfortunate lack of old school sick ass-ripping thrash in these last few pages, alas here I am to correct this ^^. + Show Spoiler +

I really love the music by bands like insomnium, ensiferum and other metal (not just MDM), but I just cannot reconcile my acute distaste for the vocals (roaring / screaming / generally sounding like a raging hellspawn demon and not a human). I pretty much exclusively listen to Nightwish and Teräsbetoni (foreign lyrics are fine), dont mind Sonata Arctica either. If anyone could recommend some bands to check out that are in a similar genre (notably power/symphonic but other is fine too) without ultra harsh vocals, I will construct a shrine to you and make daily offerings to both the old Gods and the new in your name ![]() Posting here because it's pretty relevant (thread is quite generalised in terms of genre), and I dont really wanna necro power/symph thread. I will slowly be working through this thread and the power/symph as well over the next few days. Some bands with good vocalists that comes to mind: + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + Let's add to this list : + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + + Show Spoiler + Hope you find something to your taste in this I'll add an emerging Swedish Power Metal band that was awesome both times I saw them live: Sabaton. Lyrics are (almost?) all about war history, which is pretty cool, too. Thanks a ton, will start checking them out now :D Forgot to mention I saw Sabaton live just a few weeks ago with Nightwish, They were really entertaining (plus music and vocals match my taste) so I'll be sure to listen to them some more too :D

I have 'Under a stone with no inscription' and it's such a yummy tech death record. It's technical sure, but also crammed with incredible melodies. Not to mention awesome, groovy, and crushing riffs with death metal vocals that rival some of the greats in the genre (like Amon Amarth). I'd classify it as progressive technical melodic death metal. There is no melodeath I've heard with as much depth as Anata.
