Yeah, Agalloch are pretty good. Not that much of a live band though, I doubt I'll ever see them in Europe.
Still having a good time listening to their albums every now and then and trying to play some songs
I'm just not a big fan of their vocals. They are kinda okay and do the job, but can't compete with the great melodies they're playing.

Gotta make two recommendations to you guys.

The first one is Amenra. They're playing something between metal and hardcore in mid- to downtempo speed with great structural buildups in their songs. Vocals are changing between shouts and clear singing. Certainly not everybodys cup of tea, but worth a try. Great live band, too!

The second band is Russian Circles. Intricate instrumental metal with outstanding (!) drumming, a creative guitarist and some interesting bass play. It's just bursting with energy.
I always feel like I've made the world a better place when I get someone to enjoy them

For further exploration, try their songs: Death rides a horse, Harper Lewis, Enter.
Come for the culture. Stay for the cultural decline.

My favorite metal of all time has to be Pantera, but to go along with it

Rammstein

Eisbrecher

Ozzy

Dio

Black label society

And generally other old metal.

Also i don't speak German, but i would much rather listen to german lyrics, rather than having the singer screaming at the top of his lungs like he is being tortured.
You always hear "The glass is half empty" or "The glass is half full". I say we stop choosing what the glass is, and let the glass decide what it wants to be

I am just putting this in here, they are poor bums and need the money, so if you stumble across the album you could give it a shot:

Anyone listen to Little Tybee? I just found these guys and they are amazing, they take a classical/progressive approach to their music and are actually not very metal, but their guitarist will blow your mind, he taught Tosin Abasi from Animals As Leaders a few things when he went to the Atlanta institute of music.

Man remember how amazing In Flames used to be before they decided to adopt that mainstream -core sound? Although Jester Race and Whoracle are by far my favourites, I've been digging the Subterranean EP a lot lately.

Meh. Anata and At The Gates kinda make In Flames look childish. I do like me some Moonshield though, I'll admit. They're really good starter metal.

Anata is easily the greatest melodeath band of all time imo. Under A Stone With No Inscription and The Infernal Depths Of Hatred are utterly amazing albums.

Hey TL

I'm currently in search of new metal music but I'm having a bit of a problem.
I really love the music by bands like insomnium, ensiferum and other metal (not just MDM), but I just cannot reconcile my acute distaste for the vocals (roaring / screaming / generally sounding like a raging hellspawn demon and not a human).
I pretty much exclusively listen to Nightwish and Teräsbetoni (foreign lyrics are fine), dont mind Sonata Arctica either.

If anyone could recommend some bands to check out that are in a similar genre (notably power/symphonic but other is fine too) without ultra harsh vocals, I will construct a shrine to you and make daily offerings to both the old Gods and the new in your name

Posting here because it's pretty relevant (thread is quite generalised in terms of genre), and I dont really wanna necro power/symph thread. I will slowly be working through this thread and the power/symph as well over the next few days.

BTW, Empyrium's first 2 albums are metal-ish, other 2 are more a (neo)folky style, they're really quite different, but I recommend all of them. Songs of Moors and Misty Fields is something special though.

I really recommend the new Voivod album - has their typical strange atmosphere, technical level and is punky as well, it really has a lot of parallels with Dimension Hatross. Anyone who likes punk, thrash and progressive metal, give it a try.

Anyway, to ask you guys... any recommendations on fresh-sounding thrash bands out there? In the vein of, say, Vektor or Warbringer...
Busy night, but there's always room for another... unless the servers are down.
