Out of all the main idol groups, there probably isn't much to begin with but H!P acts probably have the most substance song wise (lyrically, musically) due to Tsunku being their producer. After all he even did stuff for Ayumi Hamasaki of all people lol
Actually the fact that Buono! is the most interesting idol group musically is because Tsunku doesn't produce them. H!P is becoming so boring now duuh, I used to love Berryz Kôbô and °C-ute but their song are shitty now, and they have no budget compared to Momusu.
@Piggiez: Sleepy.ab is an interesting group definitely, calm songs mostly. I should listen them more.
H!P's been so popular throughout the years its probably about time they started becoming dull to a good amount of people lol. Correct me if I'm wrong but I knew trance was like something immovable when it comes to dance music, especially in Europe but it seems like even Trance runs into a dull moment (Especially when you need to invite house artists to Sensation White...). lol and I had no idea Tsunku didn't produce Buono! at all, especially since it consists the main stars of both C-ute and Berryz.
Japan's mainstream rock I think is amazing out of the oriental countries (JP, KR, CN). Too bad I don't enjoy rock music like I used too... Meanwhile Korea has the more established (and probably just a bit better than Japan) R&B scene.
Meanwhile YUKALI... wow
Tsunku initially didn't touch buono at all (songs like honto no jibun, independent girl, renai rider etc... all don't have him doing anything for them). This continued up to around co no michi where he did lyrics. And a lot of the songs hes touched have been kinda weak. On the other hand, if you want a great buono song, look for 西川進 (Nishikawa Susumu). I swear he is involved in every great buono song.
I also have to agree with the poster above that the general h!p song is getting boring/unappealing/unintersting. Some of the recent singles from c-ute/berryz/momusu have been pretty terrible. Berryz has been particularly hard for me to follow due to this
tbh, I'm a bit wary whenever its announced that tsunku is involved with a buono song. I think what really set buono apart early on was just how independent they were from the rest of h!p. They were under pony canyon, did their own promotions, had their own group of composers etc. making songs. It was pretty awesome.
Nishikawa did arrangement while tsunku did composition for MY BOY though, and it turned out as one of their better songs

Anyone here a fan of akb48? Judging by the comments, I'm guessing most are fans of H!P rather then AKB but if there is any here please tell cause I really love them
Not for the music ofcourse (cause honestly idols don't make good music in japan) but their songs are catchy as hell and are just fun to listen to.
I really like beginner, river, hebirote, Oogoe diamond, dareka no tame ni, Sakura no ki ni narou, and everyday kachuusha. Easily their best songs. Their stage songs are also really good. Sub groups and acchan + tomochin ain't so bad either.
Btw just wanted to clarify to all the non-fans. AKB is almost 50-50 boy and girl fans Hebirote is more popular among fanGIRLS than fan boys and it's not even considered bad in japan lol. Bulkbuying occurs in every idol group including arashi or SNSD.
also, after going to Kalafina's concert at anime expo, I am such a huge fan of them now. Their live singing is really amazing and their personalities are nothing like I expected them to be. They were pretty fun to listen to in normal conversation and their English isn't too bad either. I pretty much stalked them the entire expo and got autographs on Magia and Red Moon CDs, both of which I bought on impulse. I now look forward to their new album later this year

But anyways, any other fans of AKB?
I'm not really a fan of AKB, but I have to admit that they somehow deserve their succes. The marketing of this band is just great. Concerts everyday to make fan feels they are not only televised products as most idols are. Fanservice music videos (Heavy Rotation lolilol), Commercials for shops and produtcs everywhere... And their songs are... idolish. Frinkin' songs made so as they stay in you head hours long (Heavy Rotation lolilol).
i feel like everywhere i go on the internet i have to defend myself though. i really don't like that. can't we just enjoy life and our own hobbies without discrediting others?! i have to fend off so much misinformation too.
