Gotta remember that the rest of the family (AKA the non pro-gamers) probably work 6 days a week and like 10-14 hours every day.

They probably live in different areas, so meeting up as 5 is out of the question. It probably isn't very polite to be at home and yet not playing host to relatives visiting. Different schedules, only practicing online, lack of good opponents during the holiday season probably add up to the starting assumption that there will be no practice during those two weeks for anyone, and that finding an effective alternative is pretty difficult. Considering how common team houses are, Chinese teams probably don't like the idea of online practice either.

it's just a chinese tradition thing..to practice and live in a teamhouse..western and sea teams practice in any condition and thats a plus point for them.

yea thinking on it, teamhouse environment may not be good for getting to the top level of dota... eg seems to operate by having 5 people really think for themselves most of the time, and then have ppd mash it together when big lans hit
trying to think as a group all the time may lead to huge blind spots or just limited drafting in general

I can't speak for Malaysia, but the traditions are much less entrenched in Singapore, and I would assume the same applies for Chinese communities in SEA countries in general. I've only heard second-hand about China's practices, and it has always appeared to be very well observed in general.
