I believe Alliance's first flights got cancelled or something. But I assume it's at least partly Alliance's own fault. EG went to Minsk early to do some bootcamp so clearly SL is not just booking everyone's flights without consulting the teams. If you fly the day before the event something like this might happen.

Whatever the case, they're on a flight now to the tournament with much of the public behind them given Starladder's failure to negotiate, so what are the organizers going to do?

He doesn't work for them right now, or never worked for them? I remember some player or manager (possibly Envy) complaining about delays in tournament payments and mentioning specifically StarLadder and v1lat. Later he corrected his statement and apologized, saying that he thought it was v1lat's reponsibility but later he found out his job does not include managing payments. Or something like that. From that I gathered he works for SLTV in some capacity other than comentator.

I believe he hasn't worked for them for a while but I don't really have a source at hand, I just remember him saying that. And yea I believe he was employed by them at some point

Now, to talk about the actual tournament...
I'd say a Russian team is going to win it. PPD's team has traditionally been weak against European teams, and I just don't see LGD knowing what to do against popular Western picks such as Pudge. The Chinese don't play it, spending a ban on it puts you at a disadvantage, and the hero got such a huge improvement that it's stupid. I think what's liable to occur is that LGD is going to end up with a ban on it, and that's going to allow the opponent to pick heroes such as Bat Rider, Earth Spirit, Terrorblade, etc., and that's going to end them.
The only other team that has a shot, I think, is Secret, as they know how to run Terrorblade, Pudge, Meepo, etc. But no idea where Secret is in terms of skill these days.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

LGD is interesting and I'm curious which version shows up. They looked a lot better in the Shanghai Qualifiers than they had in the two recent China tournaments. (Both of which Ehome won.) They didn't look terrible, but VG was beating people by very obviously treating the tournament like practice. (Seriously, some of those VG drafts.) So it'll be interesting to see them against top-tier non-China squads.
Though I'm really not liking a Bo1 format. At least Bo2s should be a given in any type of major tournament.

If the tournament was longer with more teams, I would disagree heavily on a CIS team winning. I feel like the current meta we see in qualifiers will evolve rapidly away from that style given a long tournament with top teams, and CIS teams are slower to adapt compared to the flexible Secret, EG, VG mid-tournament.
with it being bo1 into single elim bo3... I honestly don't know or put much stock in the winner. I can see almost half the teams here winning it given this format. I think Secret is probably near the top strictly off of hero pool diversity, and w33 keeping in good form. The advantage of having a Meepo player is still so fucking huge, and in this current pushing meta it has only gotten better.

LGD always looks solid against Chinese teams, because those teams have poor picks/bans/etc. Sylar won many of LGD's recent games by just knowing how to play Terrorblade and Morphling, which their opponents didn't know how to deal with. They won't have such benefits against top European and American teams, who have a larger hero pool, and who know what to ban against them. Not being able to play with/against Pudge is a huge issue in the current version, and last I remember, LGD still had trouble against Western Wisp play. That's basically a recipe for disaster.

Charlie in MLG when NoT flight got canceled and they would be late:
"nono guys, we are scheduled to play NoT in the first game of the tournament, we can't just change the schedule, its their problem and they should get a def loss"
Charlie in starladder when alliance flight got canceled and they would be late:
"guys, we have 0 problems in changing our games, its not their fault, also I think no team here should have any problem in changing the schedule for alliance!"
Fucking hypocrite. How can anyone like this guy, jesus

1)https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/326xue/not_flight_delayed_5_hours_so_they_cant_play_vs/
2) it's important to show the Dota scene is far from being fair and professional. This shows that some teams (EG, and GGA for the matter), don't care about the scene itself, they only care about themselves.
Edit: just to make things clear: IMO alliance fucked up by flying there so late, they should know every flight can be cancelled for a variety of reasons, BUT, if they can make it in the day just a couple of ours late, and this doesn't affect the tournament schedule as a whole, they should change the schedule to accommodate them. I just wish every team could have the same treatment, not only from the tournament organizers, but from the other teams as well.

Which is why I'm curious how LGD will do. Even if teams should know what to ban against another team, far too much tends to get through in Bo1s. And I'm really sad we're not getting at least Bo2s for this.
I have that sinking EG Day 1 feeling is going to strike. Granted, Lycan & Lone Druid (Artezzy) are back in the meta, along with Faceless Void (Universe), EG may just push everyone into oblivion. So we'll see. Though I really want to see what EG has planned for the Midlane, as that's really odd right now.

I'm still not sure what you're on about. I actually read the thread. NoT messed up and MLG couldn't completely rearrange the schedule so EG ended up with a free win as a result. ( https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/326xue/not_flight_delayed_5_hours_so_they_cant_play_vs/cq8hezx ; note the response.)
So I'm still not sure what you're on about. You seem to have an idea of what happened that no one else seems to have in that instance. And then you're projecting it onto this one.

So, let me understand: NoT having problems with their flight is NoT's fault because their manager is not the great Charlie yang. On the other hand, alliance having problems with their flight is ok, because it's not alliance fault. Yeah, that makes sense. And yes, they could rearrange the schedule, just put NIP be EG in the first game and everything would be fine.
About Charlie response: it's the same situation. Both teams fucked up in the same way: both would have problems of their flight had problems.
