I'm predicting a 2:1 for TL over VP and an easy 2:0 for OG over EHOME, then a 2:1 win for OG over TL

Dota 2 tournaments feel so boring now that top Western teams simply don't lose to Chinese teams.

starcraft dominating is soo different than this one.idk why people throw the comparison here and there.

.i mean,it's not like there was a TI 5 months ago where Top 5 had 4 chinese teams, right?just because they looked weaker after that doesnt mean dota 2 is comparable to starcraft

Didn't that same team lose to Liquid and Natus Vincere? I think they're a team capable of beating the best, but also capable of losing to second-tier teams. In any case, I ought to have just said that it's boring now that Chinese teams no longer look to be able to win tournaments with top Western teams in them.

I enjoyed the old days when there was equal competition between the regions, when there was a shot that I'd be wrong when I said that West was going to win. It made it exciting. Now, where's the excitement in watching top Western teams crush Chinese teams for the 4th tournament in a row?

Whenever one region is above the other regions, it gets boring for international competition. Of course, people who are fans of individual teams don't have that problem, but that gets old after a while because teams keep changing.

In Dota 2, all in all, I think we had a nice run of international competition - four years of trading wins between China and the West. In SC 2, it only took about two years before the international competition became too one sided for it to matter. For LoL, I think it took two years as well. Those are/were the big eSports I pay attention to, and Dota has had the best time with it.

But I feel it's coming to an end.

The shots of me being right because of the "broken clock" argument is:

(0.5)^4 = 6.25%

But actually, I also said the West was going to win the international in 2015, so it's actually:

(0.5)^5 = 3.12%

97% skill, 3% luck.

Liquid has zero ability to siege or force high ground now. Their only chance of winning is to beat VP in a teamfight outside. If VP plays defensively and not seek teamfights until fat, this game is comfortably theirs.

That doesn't matter here, twitch uses around 1.5Mbits/s on High.

Umm as long PL is near Gyro/Razor's farm, I think VP is comfortable. VP has so much wave clear, Liquid has so little catch. A farmed PL can harass both cores easily out of the siege.

Cable. And up until tonight this speed was enough to watch Twitch streams (including BtS) in high quality with no problems. I know it's not amazing and am not even touching the "source" buton, but very laggy medium is not something I came to expect...

Yea. I'm just saying that VP should just be dodging fights and stalling. Only look for pickoffs.

But VP's just forcing bad engagements everywhere.

But actually, I also said the West was going to win the international in 2015, so it's actually:

97% skill, 3% luck.

Also said VP would be third, MVP would be third, Secret would win, Empire would be third...

Really good strategic play from Liquid there, forcing movement with Gyro/Wisp at top, but also pressuring Rosh so they can't just attack Roshan with all their heroes.

Instead of losing Roshan for free, they get a top Rax by pressuring the top lane early so the creep wave is near T3's.

That's true, but would you rather have one rax down or 0? IMO, any little advantage you can get late game, you take because it could have huge effects on the game.

Realistically, there are only a few good teams capable of winning premier tournaments. In TI5, only EG, Secret, LGD and Vici could be considered by a sane person to have the calibre to win it. So to say that you're good at predicting when you chose 2 out of 4 teams isn't really a big accomplishment. Saying that a Western team will win TI5 isn't a big deal either, because it was clear that Eastern teams were shit.

You were however right when you said long ago about the decline of Chinese dota. I actually agreed with your opinion then.

VP playing really well even from behind, delaying the game and allowing PL to get the items he needed to be able to take on multiple heroes. Constantly splitting the map and getting the favorable trades in any engagement.

Anyway it isn't a throw by Liquid. It was just poor plays by Liquid during minute 8-14 that gave space for PL to have some farm. After that, he had enough items to make him immune to any attempt at ganking him. That allowed him the safety and space to keep farming.

Like I said, once PL has the ability to get fat, VP should have this game barring some stupid teamfight loss.

liquid lost cuz they picked 5 man line up and didn't 5 man at all. got greedy going into enemy woods without razor and undying and then kept going for skirmishes against aa... the draft was fine they just played as if they had ganking heroes lol. i expect them to 5 man next game. or pick stuns.

Gyro and Razor were both 16k while PL was 12k at some point. Losing by running supports into the PL at that point I'd consider throwing. There was no way PL was going to keep up on farm with both Liquid cores if that hadn't happened several times in a row. They gifted him Heart Manta and it was over.

VP certainly did play well though, not trying to say they didn't.

It's definitely a throw. I get not wanting to be clustered against ice blast and RP, but there was no reason to just be scattered all over the map allowing VP to pick them all off one by one. They never managed to get a solid 5v5 fight. Every engagement in the late game had them down one or two heroes because they stupidly got themselves picked off.

Like I said, once PL has the ability to get fat, VP should have this game barring some stupid teamfight loss.

Yeah I wouldn't call that a throw, but they did choke. Too much solo hero play from Liquid.

It definitely wasn't a throw.

VP just outplayed and outmaneuvered them in the mid-late game with their superior late game heroes. There were lots of attempts of Liquid trying to make something happen, but they either didn't predict the correct movements or didn't have enough support to bring down heroes. There weren't any huge mistakes that Liquid caused themselves to lose. VP took every single advantage they could when they were down to come back in the game.

If anything, this shows how solid VP's drafting and shotcalling is.

even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The shots of me being right because of the "broken clock" argument is:

(0.5)^4 = 6.25%

But actually, I also said the West was going to win the international in 2015, so it's actually:

(0.5)^5 = 3.12%

97% skill, 3% luck.

Also said VP would be third, MVP would be third, Secret would win, Empire would be third...

I over rated Russians, over rated Koreans, and over rated Arteezy, but I do also recall saying that one of Puppey/PPD is going to win.

You just say a lot of stupid shit. Sometimes it sticks, but it's usually ludicrous.

It's usually spot on. Saying Virtus Pro and Empire would be 3rd/4th isn't that ridiculous, and saying Secret would win is what most of the community did. The only ludicrous call I made during the international was that MVP would be 3rd. I did enjoy what happened after though - ie all the people telling me that, after Secret got eliminated and PPD's team dropped to lower, the Chinese were going to take it, and that I best be prepared to disappear. We all know what happened.

And yes, calling for the West to win these days is not a big achievement. Which is why I said in the beginning that I'd love for it to be competitive again. Rather than a "broken clock" analogy, the current state of Dota is one where anyone could get it right just by saying the West's gonna win. That makes it boring.

I know why I feared for TL in this series... Not saying its over but even when they win a game against VP it oftentimes feels so hard for TL to edge out the win. Funny though cause even though i like VP a lot, i say if they kick out TL here i think they will fall to OGmost certainly... while i think TL would have a better chance at beating OG
Anyway gotta keep the chin up so that the horse tramples down the bear!

People abusing the word "throw" once again. You throw when you have the game pretty much won but you lose the game anyways.

Gold lead at 20 mins that's mainly a byproduct of the draft != won game
You mean I just write stuff here and other people can see it?

Gyro and Razor were both 16k while PL was 12k at some point. Losing by running supports into the PL at that point I'd consider throwing. There was no way PL was going to keep up on farm with both Liquid cores if that hadn't happened several times in a row. They gifted him Heart Manta and it was over.

VP certainly did play well though, not trying to say they didn't.

It doesn't matter if both cores maintain a 4k lead over PL. At their current networth, they can't comfortably siege highground with all the spam VP has. If they have a bigger networth, they still can't comfortably siege highground with a farmed PL + the spams. Liquid has zero chance of forcing highground with VP heroes defending. They can only do so with a teamfight, which VP can choose not to engage. The networth doesn't matter once PL reached the stage when he can comfortably keep up with Liquid's cores.

To me it is a throw when Liquid has the game firmly in their grasp. My opinion is that at no stage of the game was Liquid in full control. As I pointed out earlier, from minute 8-14 Liquid screwed up bad. At that point I already called the VP win. What happened wasn't a throw, but a full tilt.

Saying "one of the two teams that make every finals will win TI5" is an obvious guess, and getting that right does not make you smart.

Getting everything else wrong and still pretending you're smart is hilarious. You hedged your bets across like 6 teams and got 1 right.

Also, many (most) people still thought EG would take the finals, especially when you separate out the people making predictions with the ones who are just cheering their favourite teams. Betting odds were in favour of EG, and the fact that they won was not shocking to anyone.

Axe doesn't counter Brood. He merely is a hero that doesn't die to Brood, can farm against the hero, and doesn't allow Brood to dominate the lane. Essentially you're guaranteed a decent Blink initiator. Brood though still should get the usual farm really easily.

Seriously, the dota team chokes at the same time as the CSGO team. Hell, the league team choked when they had multiple opportunities to go to worlds. The heroes team choked in Prague for the Blizzcon qualifiers. There are too many Liquid teams that are choking at important times. Is this on management or the team themselves? What's going on?

Ah yes, ignore the big calls, and focus only on such trivial errors as who the 3rd place team is going to be.

I'll be fair - by the time of the international, it was easy already to see that the West was going to win, and the only people who thought otherwise operated on the mistaken belief that the Chinese were going to double their skill in a month. But the "smart" call was the one I made earlier in the year, after DAC, where I said that there is no way the Chinese had a team that matches up to PPD's and Puppey's in raw talent. And the "smarter" call, in case you will, is the one I made AFTER the international, where I said that all jokes about 8 0 0 0 MMR aside, it's the Western new talent that's going to pull the West ahead this season.

But yes, keep talking about how I made a mistake about the Russians and Koreans.

Yeah, it's totally management's fault. They have voodoo dolls of all the Liquid players and stick pins in them whenever they're close to winning. /s

Ah yes, ignore the big calls, and focus only on such trivial errors as who the 3rd place team is going to be. I'll be fair - by the time of the international, it was easy already to see that the West was going to win, and the only people who thought otherwise operated on the mistaken belief that the Chinese were just sand bagging the whole way.

Also forgetting your big call of no Chinese in the Top 4.

I said there *could* be no Chinese in the top 4, not that there's going to be.

Also forgetting your big call of no Chinese in the Top 4.

I said there *could* be no Chinese in the top 4, not that there's going to be.

Notice that majority of your calls have some form of hedging?

Clearly only calls when they're right.

Can't be a broken clock if you only tell time twice a day.

Yeah, that's why I said I was wrong about the Russians and the Koreans during the international? Because I only admit calls when I'm right?

You want to know what a call is? Here's an example:

still wondering why ET in this game. Sounds cool to increase gyro's damage, but what else?

it's some of the worst heroes to play ET against , dazzle weave is all + armor and tiny doesn't even have base armor to reduce. VP's lineup will naturally get AC/vlads too

I wish Secret was in this tournament just so we could have EE arguing about One Punch Man with Kotlguy.

Yeah, there is, but it's a minor one, as I'm locked into the call as soon as Secret wins, and no this wasn't the game that decided the finals.

I mean, i know Venge hits like a truck on paper. I once did the math that lead me to conclusion that when IceFrog dropped Juggernaut's BAT to 1.5, Venge was still a better DPSer.

I usually don't get to see that.

Because Venge was caught by Shards. There's no way Venge would survive even if Dazzle was there. The Swap gave Venge enough distance to run to safety, though even then she would have died if not for Bane.

well, it was super well played by vp though, regardless of how you feel about liquid

plus, the liquid lineup was kinda lacking in teamfight? i mean there was almost no reason to get bkb for the vp cores

They had a pretty big lead from laning stage were up like 8-2 won like all lanes

VP went for a desperation rosh and Fata face checked it and got blown up, Kuro died trying to save him, VP got rosh

VP then won a teamfight about a minute later thanks to Aegis and just won every fight for the rest of the game

This turned out like i expected more or less in the end... sad for liquid. Especially since i give them the bigger shot at beating OG/Ehome :/ still glad for lil and fng. those 2 are the diamonds of cis dota (well and puppey obv.).
Now i am just rooting for OG/China.. the anti EG way of life

I find winter's voice very soothing.

Also, OG choosing dire instead of firstpick makes me wonder if they have a strategy for 2nd pick dire, because it was obvious that's what they would get.

I think Ehome knew they were out classed late game, so had to end the game, but that was never going to occur

That was... strange. I'm not sure why Ehome wasn't just right clicking the throne the entire time and instead opting for maybe 80% uptime after the second tier 4 fell.

And N0tail reminds everybody: Alliance might be known as the kings of rat dota, but the concept began with his meepo on Fnatic vs VP.

You have to balance it with harassing the enemy away and doing damage to towers. There were 3 OG heroes just baiting them back and forth. It's really hard to make split second decisions with so much chaos going on.

The one really unfortunate thing was oldchicken using focus fire on the rax just before CTY started running at the throne.

Yeah I get that, but they were all in anyways. I just don't see the benefit of trying to manage the other 3 heroes while an SF/Meepo are hitting your throne.

You mean EHOME saw alive dark seer and saw SF and meepo at their base?

Baserace was their only option.

They still fucked that up but tping back would suck harder.

Thinking about personalities imagine Zyori sitting in a dark corner under the ceiling, eating some stolen cookies crying silently everytime he hears people having fun and constantly arguing with himself that it isnt that bad because they have so little prizemoney and BTS is dying.
Or maybe he got hired to welcome guests with some warm towels or something

All right, OG punished for arrogant pick. Meepo is not autowin.

Really coolheaded play by VP, amazing job picking smart fights for the entire game. It never looked for a second like they weren't in total control of things.

2nd game shows how a prepared team can deal with og. I've said several times how bad it is to first phase gyro, since og loves to run PL/huskar/am against it. Well, all you have to do is to remove 2 of the heroes, and make the game unplayable for the third. That's what VP did.

This is why a team like og doesn't sustain their dominance. They rely on the same drafting approach all the time. They appear to have a wide hero pool, but they are actually fairly predictable. I think og need to switch things up.

Also don't pick LD for notail. I have seen too many pub games of his. He buys too many small items that delays his big item. Basilus oov quelling tranquil phase stout. 3.5k net worth of nothing.

So I had the series up on my other monitor and didn't catch it all directly, but every time I looked OG was getting wrecked. The score in both also seemed to corroborate that. Were there any bright moments for them?

Interestingly og did try to change things up a little with the first pick ww instead of doom. They still had a chance of getting 2nd pick doom. The pattern was different, but the heroes they got were their usuals. I'd say this pattern was actually weaker, because it forced them to commit to those 2 supports if they wanted doom, which is pretty good choice against gyro. IMO it should have been 2nd pick doom, and then for their 3rd pick they have the flexibility to pick whatever support they want.

I hoped for a better showing by VG.
Good for them making this far.

Does anyone feel like the Chinese teams don't deal with drafting meta shift during tournaments well?
Their execution and mechanics are top notch but they seem to fall off after a hot start these days.
