I certainly see where you're coming from. I've felt that way about his commentary in the past as well. It does feel like some commentators don't call out anything though and I always feel thats a weakness on the commentator's part.
Whenever pro players are commentating they often point out the higher percentage plays than the plays which the teams make which I think has the most value from an analytical point of view. I guess sometimes Merlini falls short on that. Maybe its something he can work on.
In response to your question of perfect vs non-perfect I think the factor you're missing is FoW. There can't really be perfect dota due to the lack of perfect knowledge and so regardless of how you cut it there will always be percentages in a given play. Big plays often amount to making what seems a 20% play succeed.

i disagree completely considering most of fata's winning bm games involved him getting lots of solo kills with his necrobook which he couldn't get with a blink
beastmaster doesn't do much damage without a necrobook; if you go blink you have to involve your team rather than being a solo threat

I guess you're right when it comes to mid beastmaster. I'm probably just biased from the offlane beastmaster games where they scrape together money for a necro book at 20-25 minutes and then proceed to do nothing the whole game and have to rely on their team for damage AND can't initiate on the some of the super mobile heroes that control the game right now.
