There are plenty of smaller tournaments with plenty of cash to distributed. But IIRC highest prize pool outside of TI is <300k $

This is a TI final

so no

So TI has the same curse as GSL?

Pretty much

But last TI finals were great. No idea what you are talking about.

This is one of the reasons people disliked SC2. :D
But IceFrog can break the meta soon.

The last game of the TI finals were great*

Rest of the series not so much

But it featured weird plays like mid Wisp and carry venge (or was that in in winners bracket finals?).

Honestly I enjoyed last TIs finals because it was two different styles clashing against each other. But this TI the best strategy was is clearly the 5 man deathball with either strong teamfight ultimates or a lot of meat to push towers. And not taking anything away from that, but the games are decided really early with that.

OK GAME IS STARTING, VG GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER! PLZ WIN NAO!

Yes, I honestly don't know where all these "last year was similar" stuff is coming from. I doubt it's from people that actually remember the games...

While game 1 and 2 where indeed super fast stomps. game 3 was actually the amazing dendi solo-mid wisp game that lasted 47 minutes and game 4 was the fantastic S4 nightstalker (37 minutes).

Last years final was all around amazing, going back and forth, showing different styles and drafts. This final can still be great, but they have gigantic shoes to fill...

There was around 5 about 200k prize pools tourneys this year so far, and few 50-100k.

Although it's been a while since I watched SC2. I think that in general Dota tournaments have a higher prize than SC2 ones. You can actually spectate within the game client itself but for every tournament except TI you need to buy an ingame ticket, a percentage of which goes to the prize pool. Buffing up the total prize significantly.
Life has won two GSLs and a Blizzard Cup. NOT three GSLs.

Newbee didn't play deathball in games they won against VG, what are you even talking about.
I think their strategy is to dumpster bad Western teams (c) uriel
