About watching merlini's, a quick pointer is that he likes to build his heroes just like the way they used to be built right around the era when merlini left dota1. There were only 3 boots back then, PT, BoT and the relatively new Phaseboots which is the cheapest among them. Most supportive heroes went phaseboots or some of them go arcane ring (which later became today's arcane boots). His BoT build on almost all range heroes is also a 'leftover' habit from his era.
It depends on game that how much skillpoint you would invest in manadrain, it depends on how long are you going to stay on the lane in early game. And generally speaking you should go manaboots because lion's spells are expensive unless you have 2/3 arcanes in team already.

I was so happy when arcane ring was removed and arcane boots were introduced.

Smart casting is when the targeted skills automatically go off when you press whatever the hotkey is. Like invoker's sunstrike going off the second you press the hotkey where your mouse is placed, pretty much takes less time to press hotkey instead of hotkey-click
Edit: Thanks!

You need to copy/paste this to config.cfg or autoconfig.cfg in your dota 2 beta/dota/cfg directory. Also follow the instructions in the file itself to change the binds (and unbind the keys you want to use in game).

after getting into windrunner i really start to like her as a support hero and her skills are just amazing! now i'm just wondering, as for the item build: at boots i decide between phase/mana boots if there is a manahungry hero in the lineup like magnus if no mana boots i go ring of basilus for some manareg
now i'm just wondering, as i like to go force staff afterwards to help people escape / try to pull an enemy hero to our team (ok in pubs at my level (low) that just leaves i guess 9 other players surprised )
with powershot i often get kills (even though sometimes it feels like stealing :$) but i'm wondering what items i should prioritise after the boots? ofc thats situational (like one bracers in if there is zeus or other nukers) mek, pipe, forcestaff, euls, hex, necro book (if there is e.g. bountyhunter - is it "cost effective"? its 5200 gold for lvl 3 and true sight or better just use dust - but that takes an inventory slot) - and ofc warding all game.
so i'm wondering, as there are only 6 itemslots - and for tp scroll / wards / dust many are used up already and i effectively have only 4 slots :/ so say arcane boots, bracer, forcestaff, euls and then i'm just a big question mark
thanks already for some tipps and some more insight!

afaik, you can use bottle on the bear and take runes, but since you cant switch the bottle around with the rune in it its no use, except refilling your bottle. And bear can't use illusion and dd runes I think

A build that I've grown to love is: Phase Boots->Ring of Basilius->Magic Wand->Mekansm->Force Staff->Sheep Stick (substituting RoB+Phase for Arcane boots is reasonably common)
I'm pretty sure this build is quite standard.
The magic wand, even if it only has ~3 charges, will always give you more survivability than a bracer. The burst heal, and bonus armor from Meka and RoB will give you a lot of survivability in team fights/ganks and the mobility from force staff is excellent for landing shackles and just team fights in general. It is also an item that seems more useful the better you get at dota. The sheep stick speaks for itself.
I prefer phase over mana boots (although it is situational) because I feel the mobility of phase boots synergizes well with shackle shot, and the bonus damage is particularly good on windrunner because of her low base attack time and 600 range.
The biggest problem with this build is that you need to be particularly careful with your mana.

That's a pretty standard WR build. I usually prefer an earlier Ring of Basilius due to WR's low base armor. Starting off with a Ring of Protection allows you to withstand a lot of bullying from enemy supports if you're long lane solo. Other cool tricks with Ring of Basilius is toggling it on and off when your creeps are underneath the enemy tower (the bonus armor it gives to creeps makes it a lot trickier for the enemy to last hit).
Also, pre-upgraded boots (or extending to Arcane Boots), you can abuse the ability to disassemble Ring of Basilius/Tranquil Boots. Just pick up a Ring of Regeneration then disassemble RoB --> Tranquil when you need hp and vice versa when you need mana. Later on the Ring of Regeneration can be built into Mek/Force Staff/Hood of Defiance.

nice tricks there but my problem is that i effectively can only use 4 slots - as two are used by support stuff like townportal, wards, sentrys, dust, smoke - its nothing more annoying than needing some sentrys but having no slot in the inventory
thats why i'm asking what would u prioritise - i'm thinking now that mana boots help more there as it uses one slot and you can skip the RoB - and as support the dmg is not that important - the skills are more. so mana boots, force staff, mek, euls/sheepstick?
