According to Liquid themselves, it was because Matumbaman was no comfortable with playing Drow or Luna, so they switch roles to adapt to the draft. KuroKy is quite comfortable as carry and Matumbaman is comfortable with playing support. I don't remember if it was KuroKy talking about this in a Dreamleague interview. In their latest today, it might just have been because they wanted certain heroes for GH (like getting him on the Magnus).
I'd say that a certain amount of role-swapping between games can be really beneficial to a team. It adds flexibility and makes it harder for other teams to draft against them. However, if you do it too much, it can be hard for people to play their roles in perfect synergy with the team, and they will suffer from it.
After all, you can see the benefit of people knowing each other's roles well on a team like Evil Geniuses. It's quite clearly highlighted when you see how they are able to play into Universe or Sumail, knowing how they will react to the situation and setting up plays. Because they feel like they know each other, they also trust each other a lot in how the play, and, by the looks of it, there is rarely confusion about how to react to different situations (some of which can probably be attributed to the captaincy of ppd, of course).
