Ana to take extended competitive break In a Tweet and Facebook post earlier today TI8-Winners OG have announced that Anathan " ana" Pham will be taking an extended break from competitive Dota 2. He will remain on the OG roster as substitute.
Subsequently OG will be playing the Chongqing Major qualifiers with a stand-in, who will be announced soon.
Ana's Statement:
“Thank you to all the guys in this team, it was a pleasure playing/working again with them plus some new members! I would also like to thank ppasarel and Charlie for being such great assistance to myself and the team. For now, I think more time is needed for myself and right now my motivation lies elsewhere. Good luck to these great bunch of guys and I wish them the very best! OG will always be the happy place!” – Anathan “ana” Pham
Johan " N0tail" Sundstein also had the following to say:
“To the fans, Thank you all for showing us this incredible positivity and support that helped us throughout TI. Couldn’t have done it without you. The dota 2017-2018 season gave us a lot of good games and a few new faces, but Ana is somebody we all knew and to think he’d return to us after close to a year of not playing together. What a journey this year was, and to my own surprise what an ending it had. When I think back at TI8 Ana Ember pops into my head and leaves me smiling, wonder what other people think when someone says TI8 Ana. To Ana, Thanks brother, thank you for the best few months of my professional life. To see you lay the haters down one by one and keep climbing higher is a true inspiration to me and others that see it. Can’t wait to see you soon down under my man, all the best <3” – Johan “N0tail” Sundstein

Still mourning the loss of the good chatwheel evidently was really hoping to see him back in more tourneys.
Oh well, time for OG to unearth yet another insane talent.

1. Win a Major and do decent at TI 2. Take Break 3. ??? 4. Win TI Profit

He will probably join the next TI assuming the team will survive until then, I would be pleasantly surprised if they do well this season.

Ana was the mvp of last season having played 1 tournament, he single handedly carried OG in finals game 4

Seriously though, I don't think any other carry has ever put the team on his back so consistently the way Ana did

I'm really scared for OG, i think Ana fit perfectly with their style, when they tried other Pos 1 players such as Reso it never worked for them. I mean Topson and Jerax play lot of spacemaking heroes, you need to find an RTZ/Ana type of carry and i dont think it's easy right now.
But of course 7.20 incoming and probably the meta will shift a lot so you never know.

not a surprise he took a long break, but the announcement timing is a bit surprising

Im blown away how the best carry in the world can not have motivation to play. Still, he had said he was gonna take a break after TI8 and that winning had only put a question mark on that plan. But I’m still sad

Take a break for a year, come back and win it all That’s crazy

Yea. He plays late game like a mad man. He may be a rubbish laner, but give him the space and you can count on him to carry you.

Ana's a beast, i knew that when he came back to OG he could carry them to victory like he did in the majors… well, i can understand that after winning TI he must have much less motivation… gl to him and to OG to find a decent replace.

Seems like my assumptions were correct. OG are either disbanding/making big changes after playing an event together, or not playing an event altogether. And now with being eliminated so early in the qualifier it proves without a doubt that we had the fluke TI.

I don’t think it’s a controversial opinion to say that OG was the weakest team to win a TI. After Ana, their best player, left it was pretty obvious to me that this team was going to be mediocre.
