Interview with NB.Kaka: -"In Newbee I can play with better flexibility and tempo"-By Brother Tea Leaf @ games.ifeng.com
This interview was published on 7 April, 2016 (patch 6.86).
Chinese teams got completely screwed at the Shanghai Major. Ehome, who were in good shape and performing quite well, were eliminated by Alliance early in the lower bracket. Now, March 3rd is a nationally tragic day for Chinese Dota. As the last team, Newbee did not go further either.
As the pressure from the community was building, all famous Chinese teams made some major shuffles. Cty and Kaka left Ehome after the shuffle. However, only immediately before the New Year EHOME had won MDL. Why did they let two talented players go like this?
With these in mind, we conducted an interview with Kaka, who is now at Newbee. He told us that both himself, and Cty were forced to leave. He also said he was relatively distressed at Ehome. After coming to Newbee he is very relaxed and able to play the game with his own course of thought.
Interviewer: The transfer window has closed and you ended up in Newbee. What do you think about this? Kaka: I was actually worried. I worried that teammates won’t understand my mutterings. I was also afraid of getting myself pressed into a monitor if I play bad.
Interviewer: Did you choose to leave the team yourself? Kaka: No
Interviewer: Can you tell us the details of it? Kaka: We did poorly at the Shanghai Major. We came to think we wouldn’t go very far with the same people.
Interviewer: But all Chinese teams did not perform well at the Major, and you actually won MDL recently. Why did you think you couldn’t go further with EHOME? Was there an internal issue? Kaka: There wasn't any internal issue. The management made the final decision, and their details are unknown to us.
Interviewer: Was Cty forced to go as well? Kaka: Yes
Interviewer: You have been in Newbee for a while. What difference do you feel there is between these two teams? Kaka: I feel everyone is easy going. The chemistry is good as well.
Interviewer: So then I understand you were under a bit of distress in EHOME? Was there mistrust between players? Did you worry about making mistakes? Kaka: I was a bit distressed at EHOME. Because our 1-3 positions all wanted to farm, which makes too many things for the supports to do. In Newbee I can play with better flexibility, and better personal personal tempo. I can play my game (instead of my teammates' game).
Interviewer: Who is responsible for drafting and in-game shot calling? Kaka: I do the drafting and call the shots in the first 25 minutes. (Editor note: In the Manila quals, Hao was drafting)
Interviewer: You stomped EHOME in the qualifier of EPICENTER. Did you have a very good idea about LaNm’s trajectory in draft? Kaka: I did. But I did not see them giving us the Earth Cat (Earth Spirit).
Interviewer: What do you think about EHOME’s decision of buying Blade Mail on the Little Skeleton (Clinkz)? (This was 6.86) Kaka: Everybody has their own understanding of the items.
Interviewer: What did you think about LaNm’s transition to Position 1 (LaNm has reverted back to 4)? Who will call the shots after 25 minutes? Kaka: I think EHOME is still a strong team. After 25 minutes it is the game itself that dictates your play.
Interviewer: But they lost to you in the EPICENTER qualifier in some massive stomps.Whether it was the draft or the play you won by a wide margin. LaNm’s carrying is criticized a lot. A lot of people in the community think they can’t go far. Kaka: I think they did not prepare, and haven’t quite warmed up. Also my knowledge for Ehome gave us really good preparation. We will see when the Manila Major hits.
Interviewer: Did you talk to other teams before deciding to join Newbee? Why did you choose Newbee in the end? Kaka: CDEC.Y talked to me. I chose Newbee for various reasons.
Interviewer: You said management decided your and Cty’s departure, did 71 play a decisive role? Kaka: No
Interviewer: Then, did he ask you to stay? Did your teammate's ask you to stay? Kaka: No, I felt that we do not suit each other. It doesn't matter too much, since we are still friends.
Interviewer: How about your teammates at Newbee now? Kaka: Both Hao and Mu like to fight and don’t occupy too much resources, which makes supporting very comfortable. ChuaN is really funny and good at mirco. KP is very confident in playing heroes that he’s good at.
Interviewer: Did anything change inside you from leaving EHOME to qualifying for EPICENTER? How did it feel to beat your former team? Kaka: It's ok. We have not won anything yet. It is just a qualifier.
Interviewer: Any words for your fans? Kaka: I hope they can continue to support myself and Newbee.
Thanks for the interview.

So much for CTY-left-on-his-own-terms tale.

Both kaka and September are infamous 'dirty' hero pickers in pubs. In China, heroes like ES, phoenix and doom are regard as dirty. Kaka has better result recently so his stats are better. In the recent games, September does more damage than his carries when he play phoenix.

Ty for translation, commended.

I was all ready to blame 71 and then Kaka says it wasn't him. All seems really weird from Ehome's side.

I believe Kaka said no simply because he didn't want to reveal anything inside.
This Ehome feels suspicious to me now.
They built this team from LV gaming, the b-team for LGD and VG, with Mushi, zyf and so. They were doing good, they won a tournament against EG iirc. then they split into Ehome main squad and Ehome.MY soon after, and Ehome.MY was abandoned in a month. Ehome then rebuilt for TI5 with retired rotk and lamn, and they did surprisingly good at TI5. Then guess what? they rebuild again, this time with new face like kaka, old 11 and old chicken. After the short success in MDL, they failed in Shanghai Major, and kick their best players, Cty and kaka.
The history of this Ehome looks like an organization that trying to stay mediocre instead being good. Considering 71 has some bad reputation in his business career (Sgamers call him MLM master), I won't be surprised if there is something really nasty behind it.

To understand what's going on, all you have to do is understand where the money comes from. Ehome isn't a rich man's team, it's a team that gets money from another team. Understand that, and you'll understand why Ehome has a hard time getting the best players, and why their players go to other teams.

Ehome and Vg are under the same owner.

So when you're not the richest team, you force your best players to leave the team for free. Yeah that totally makes sense.

It's not just them. Most of the Chinese organizations belong to a small group of people. What happens when players change between these teams? Who pays the money? Who gets the money? We're all told Chinese players are worth a lot of money; but what happens when that money all comes and goes to the same people?

The difference is that the players from these teams decide who they work with, not the people above them. That's not the case in Chinese teams.

I am sorry but I cannot catch up with your logic. You said Ehome is not a rich team. And I told you they are with VG, indicating they are not poor at all. Then you came up a series of questions about the team owners and the money in players transfer activities. And I told you EG and A have the same owner, And now your come up with a point that Chinese players have no personal right.
