EG doesn't work for a league. EG's at the point where tournaments should be asking them to come, instead of them having to go through pointless qualifiers that they will win no matter what. Its a waste of their time basically, the only reason tournaments are doing it is to make money off of stupid group stages. And he is right, most tournaments only give one NA qualifier slot, and this stifles the rest of the NA scene HARD because hey, EG is arguably the SINGLE BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD. no NA teams can't get LAN experience together or a chance to test themselves and make a name, or be an underdog (like hey, RAVE?).

Unless of course you are specifically following the team like NIP or HR(those two are on fire). oh wait i'm starting the oversaturation thing btw i just opened bone7 stream to watch his storm die to the neutral stack rofl Oh yeah, totally. The thing is, the less qualifiers the top teams play, the more hungry people will be to see their games and the more organizers will try to force them to play in qualifiers to make money. The teams and organizers have to find an equilibrium for this somehow.

It's the tournaments business model to create a lot of marketable content though. Why should they cut it by a substantial margin just because someone can't be bothered to play a few qualifier games? The argument about inviting instead of qualifiers doesn't make any sense in the way it's presented anyway. If you only have one slot for a NA team planned in. You could a) have a qualifier or b) invite who you think is most deserving. So if EG really wins every qualifier with 100% it's a moot point anyway. (Not that EG never drops a game to a weaker team, which by the way also serves to increase that teams' publicity) But regardless, neither option creates more available slots in the tournament. So either you invite more teams, meaning fewer/no teams being able to qualify due to no slot, or you have to increase the size of your tournament, which is a whole other can of worms.

Rofl, sounds like he just wants to be handed free money instead of having to play a few more games to you know, actually earn it doing his job. Pro players seriously have no work ethic, imagine a big EU football team going: "Well, we basically have participated in all the world cups, and usually made it out of the groupstages, why should we need to qualify?" In football teams actually get seeded into competitions based on past success all the time. As an example, countries in Europe have different slots for getting into the Champions League. From top countries the 1st-3rd finishers get placed straight into the group stage, 4th placed team goes into the qualifying rounds. From smaller football countries even the champion goes only to the qualifying rounds. Or look at the FA cup in England: teams in lower divisions play in the early rounds, and the teams in the highest league only join the cup in the later rounds. I don't see any reason why EG as a team who has won multiple titles should be treated the same as eHug, a team which plays in the same region. If you don't want to straight up invite EG (possibly because the event only has 1 slot for an NA team), at least have them join the qualifier only at a later stage so they don't have to play so many qualifier games. Playing all those long drawn out qualifiers is a problem first and foremost for the most successful teams, because they are the ones who constantly also travel to the LANs. Lesser teams play qualifiers, don't qualify to LANs, can rest and prepare for the next one. Best teams play qualifiers, travel to LAN, play the LAN, travel home, and again start playing the very next day. This lack of seeding is one of the big reasons the bigger teams are now forced to completely skip events, because they simply can't play them all. It would be in the best interest of the tournament organizers to take into account the conditions players play in if they want to have teams in their tournament which attract viewer interest.

If you want to give more NA teams chances to get to LANs, then you simply have to have LANs that have more slots for NA teams. Either NA focused LANs like ESL NY where 3/8 teams where NA, or simply bigger LANs (at least 16 teams rather than 4-8), so that you have room to invite the top teams like EG and still have qualifiers for the other teams to play in.

To stick with that analogy, EG has the bad luck to be a top team from Romania rather than one from those countries.
