It'll turn out into some kind of "feel the other teams" event rather than something serious where they have to play their hearts out. TI3 alliance went 14-0 during the group stages dude sure they did but VG also got a 12-3 at the end of group stages and all the teams they faced will have surely took it seriously and threw everything they got cause it's for elimination ..and not "oh they are rolling oh well even if we had the slighest chance of hope lets just abandon that so that we can save energy we are not gonna get eliminated by it anyways" The thing is that half the time in that kind of group stages even at the start of the game the idea that "they can give up" and not try their hardest cause they aren't risking anything unless they are one of the last placing teams. That doesn't give the best competitive environment.
TI4 had its fair share of matches where the outcome was irrelevant for one or both of the teams, but teams still tried, even then
Teams who don't take the group stage matches seriously are risking their seeding in the main event, which is still very important. Getting seeded into the upper bracket at TI3 meant you were one BO3 away from getting into the top8; if the prize pool distribution at TI5 is the same as last year top8 is where the big jump in prize money occurs
there's 3 years of TI tournaments that provide counter-examples to your argument of "teams won't try or take matches as seriously as they should"

well w/e format they decide i hope they'd still keep the round robin b01's even without the eliminate 8 shit .. as long as we'd get to see our teams face off all other competitors just like last year would be really nice

Most the other matches where the already assured team against the brink of elimination team and the games where both are on the brink of elimination(which was the most interesting) wasn't irrelevant at all which was most of the group stages.
TI4 seeding system had even bigger risk than TI3/TI2 seeding since even if you qualify to the main event bottom 4 of top 8 is one series lose away to elimination while the top 4 of the top 8 was one b03 away from the winners bracket grand finals and had 2 series lives.
Like the only downside to only disadvantage TI4 format has was that the teams that don't make the cut has the players and fans heartbroken and bitter but everything else from the format ensures the games are taken more seriously.
Like if you compare both systems even how the TI4 seeding works poses more risks than the all top 8 teams get the same shit format.
Guess what the more risk the matches have the more exiting it gets. Why not make it more intense ? Come on man you can't be that bitter of alliances(hey i was a huge alliance fan too back then i was so fucking bitter when alliance got eliminated) not getting to play during TI4 that you are willing to never admit that TI4 format would net more serious matches than TI3 format since even the seeding obviously has more benefits on TI4.(meaning those who did the best during for the group stages gets better benefits on the seeding not the shit where a 15-0 team has the seeding benefit as a 8-7 or a 12-3 team)
