ugh w/e since most teams are gonna play anyways half of those round robin b01 games are gonna be irrelevant cause there's no guarantee they'd take that shit seriously anyways (game quality is gonna be bad since teams don't have much to lose if they lose) the teams took the ti2 and ti3 round robin stages seriously, and the matches there were equally irrelevant by your standards under the ti4 format there was no reason for arrow gaming or na'vi us to take any matches seriously after day 2 but they still did as well this is TI teams aren't just going to joke around i don't believe it from what i've seen between TI3 groups( where whatever team alliance would just give up after a lead but during TI4 there were many times where teams wouldn't just give up until the throne is dead cause every game counted )
it'll still end up as "oh we lost it's ok lets count this as practice for the main event" even if it's TI cause you know there's no real threat for the championship contending teams since they will most likely get a nice seed spot into the main event. It'll turn out into some kind of "feel the other teams" event rather than something serious where they have to play their hearts out.

why not ? they could play mindgames against those teams and try to get a read on how they draft while not revealing anything themselves ? and if it's for the better of how they will get deeper into the tournament why not fuck around the group stages where teams can analyse you .
didn't chinese teams do that on scrims against other teams cause games doesn't have any risk .. they have been successful about it
even if the tournament is for 15 million if it's not the match that will decide your fate for the tournament why not try to get an advantage if the cost is to simply fuck around the group stages

The thing is that half the time in that kind of group stages even at the start of the game the idea that "they can give up" and not try their hardest cause they aren't risking anything unless they are one of the last placing teams. That doesn't give the best competitive environment.

I think it is pretty much accepted that matches that do not matter are not good for an event and formats that include them should be avoided. Otherwise you get a team that might be in the best position possible against a team in an elimination match, which is never good.

that's why just make the bubble bracket games played on the event venue(ofc assuming the schedule doesn't go bonkers) it's just the same .. yes maybe 3-7 teams won't get to play the venue but that happens to most big tournaments like the latest mars tv (where 2 teams got eliminated .. it's just 2 but worst teams are likely to get eliminated immediately anyways) among other tournaments
every tournament had meaningless games but during group stages if there's no real elimination threat it's like half the games aren't even treated seriously .. and with 16 teams the group stages will most likely be the hugest amount of games and it would be pretty bad if most of the games aren't even treated seriously
