Yeah, sure. And they keep making new versions. Its the Ipod of high speed attack craft. New model all the time, but its not really clear why we need one. Its because they don't actually have the f-35 working yet We need it to maintain an edge against China/Russia in having the first fifth generation fighters. yea it's called the f22 that thing outmaneuvers and blows everything else out of the sky even though it costs like half a billion dollars to make worth And will never see combat because fighter dog fights are the shit out of movies. But don't tell the Air Force that.

Good thing these days we fight wars against armies with powerful air forces otherwise some might say that spending so much of our tax revenue on air superiority would be a tremendous waste leftover from a cold war mentality.

the f-22 can shoot down a target from beyond that target's range without ever being detected on radar, THATS why its good, not any hypothetical 'dogfighting' ability

i flew a real F16 simulator out at luke air force base when I was a kid. It was a lot of fun but I couldn't hit shit until they equipped my sim with some super, super expensive heat seeking OP rockets for low MMR pilots.
This was in the mid 90s and the simulator computers took up like a full room. I wonder what kind of tech they have these days.

Yes, for all the air to air warfare we will be getting in the next 20 years. Or the last 20 for that matter.

and my point was that we already do have the edge in 5th gen fighters i think the funniest thing about this arms buildup race is that the chinese counterpart to the 22 looks like an exact ripoff

the thing about the f35 is that it doesn't do anything well but costs enough money to actually just build the 3 planes that do all of its roles better separately

Or maybe this century it will be the filthy Persians and Arabs. No matter who threatens freedom and democracy and all we hold dear and etc at this particular moment in time, america will always be prepared to level disproportionate force against whatever predominantly civilian population deemed necessary.
