A lot of the staleness of the meta are centered around the 4-6 strongest heroes in this patch. I don't think it would be that bad if some nerfs went around to a few heroes, and a few heroes got some small buffs.

oh and the comeback needs to be relooked at, if not scrapped.

That's pretty much what the story of TI2 was (Na'Vi figured out how to draft against Chinese Naga first-pick) and I'm pretty sure people thought that was better than either TI3 or TI4.

i think the fastpush/deathball did not happen as much as people think .. i mean the group stages certainly did not look like that idk

Deal with the troll/jug/lina issue and a lot more heroes become viable. How many supports are drafted solely because they have a kit to deal with those heroes?

And the XP/gold system needs looking at for sure. As Aui_2000 said, assist gold/xp is fucked and comback XP is stupid. Especially after buy back.

TI2 was siiiick but there's still a lot of people who only know TI2 from "the play" youtube clips and weren't dota fans until too late to really recall it properly

TI2 had some sick plays and the whole Navi story but it also had a lot of AM vs Morph games people hated and Naga who was maybe the first hero people consistenly booed in Dota 2. Outside of Navi there weren't really that many memorable moments.

And TI3 ended up pretty much the best way a tournament could end up and the finals is one of the main things that matters in people's mind.

Even for people that watched both I don't think it's that clearcut that TI2 is viewed as better, if it is at all.

TI2 was the first Dota event I watched and it took me a long time to figure out what a BKB was. And I knew the blackhole/Naga was bad.

And runes blew my mind. I couldn't understand what they did until I figured out that they could be bottled.

comeback mechanics are fine it just needs to be changed to be less punishing and/or less rewarding in the late game

that playstyle was such a bore to watch

current comeback mechanics remain unjustifiable and fundamentally flawed and cannot be numerically tweaked to be both relevant and unharmful.

Unless, of course, you always want games that end up in highground defences being hte most important part of the game.

Honestly, most of the strong heroes (besides troll) only need some small tweaks. Jugg will be balanced iwth a 1.6 BAT. Sniper will be balanced with a CD on shrapnel (even if its short like 5-7 seconds), and so on.

its hard for me to tell if it was just becuase I was newer to the game, or if TI2 meta was actually just better.

But you must also realize that is not an extremelly popular opinion.

I'd rather Shrapnel be balanced with a mana cost/charge time change. Having both a charge time and an actual CD is clunky and kinda not well-supported in the DotA 2 UI in a way that expresses it clearly.

At the time of TI4 finals it seemed to be the prevailing one, I'm not sure how that changed.

that was pretty much VG only during TI4

the rest picked same heroes but doing different shit .. the group stages had so many long games

TI3 finals > TI2 finals was always a very popular opinion.

It doesn't help that all the heroes people are picking are amazing at high ground defense. Ax, lina, Mag, sniper, and ES are all amazing a holding the line and destroying creep waves.

In which case the amount of "TI3 finals were just as shit, TI finals are just like that" that came out after the anticlimactic TI4 finals should have been more than a little surprising to you.

TI2 meta was way worse, I mean Naga/Lycan were like the top 2 P/B heroes, lol. It's just the storyline of TI2 led to a really dynamic series between Faith/Puppey's drafting that runs totally counter to the idea that a figured-out version leads to stale series where teams only pick the same shit.

TI3 finals was still Bat+Wisp every fucking game.
