I was on the Chamber of Secrets forums arguing about how it was Harry/Ginny not Harry/Hermione and everything. I'm equal parts embarrassed at myself and proud of the fact that I was right. Also I haven't read it in years but I'm pretty sure that this is still hilarious: http://m15m.livejournal.com/2237.html i remember when i was first reading the books i kinda hoped for harry + hermione early on, but harry + ginny felt better as it went on shame they butchered ginny in the films ;_; i have no clue why they missed out peeves

The opening sequence with Dudley and the dementor is great. I never got the whole hate for emo Harry thing, I felt he had good reasons to be pissed. The adults trying to “protect” him are freaking idiots, failing to give him information and attempting to “shield” him from Voldy. For the last 4 years you have had a kid who is willing to charge into danger and their response is “we should totally keep that kid in the dark and tell him to stay out of things. Literally nothing could go wrong with that plan.” Oh yeah, the line “Look at me!” is still pretty chilling. Fuck, I might push to watch some of those movies tonight.

Once we turned the page to the 4th book the entire consistency of the world falls completely apart when "logic" and "rules" and "consequences" are introduced into a series that cannot handle those things and is no longer able to find a stable narrative. Kind of like turning into a teenager and an adult in real life.

Also the biggest mistake the movies made was cutting out Peeves. I felt the wands being twins was totally fine since Harry had part of Voldy in him. Really I love the idea that Voldy could have just killed Harry with a knife and it would have worked out, but because he was so obsessed with overcoming Harry with magic, he kept defeating himself. Hubris is a great reason to save your hero, even if it seemed a little silly during the 4th book.

He had good reasons to be pissed, I just don't feel like it's expressed particularly believably. Plus he's just insufferable a lot of the time and even if it makes sense, having the protagonist be an obnoxious prick constantly can get old. I used to re-read the book constantly though so obviously it doesn't bug me that much. Also I was definitely at the peak of my hype for book 6, but for whatever reason it's the book that I remember the least.
