D2 is mostly a fine game with fine mechanics, it's just missing rogue-like elements. The cookie-clicker like endgame of action rpgs gives maximal carpal tunnel with minimal enjoyment.
There's probably QoL improvements and great innovations in other action RPG's but the core gameplay has not been solved.
If not for speedrunning I'd think the genre is hopeless.
I'm hoping for a good dota patch soon, last patches seemed filled with mostly anti-fun stuff so haven't touched the game.

Played aoe4 beta and it was kinda like aoe2. Though hardly played that so my frame of reference is not really something to go by.
It's not my type of game if I'm honest, apart from the campaign, which I probably will finish once it's on game pass, I won't really touch it.
But I'm not touching and competitive multiplayer anyway.
I guess the Mongols could be interesting with their entirely different mechanics, but that isn't quite clear yet to me. Haven't watched the recent gameplay showcase of them.

I'm actually interested in the multiplayer side, the gameplay I've seen looks fun if a bit slow compared to SC2.

What did you learn?

From this month.
In general valve has been 100% transparent and open about it, hiding next to nothing. A lot of reviewers are allowed to test it out half a year before release and in general we're getting tons of footage and information constantly.
I'm in general a fan of Linus Tech Tips for reviews, so this video from a while back was also good:
Steam link? Hardware was scrapped because software and apps could achieve the same, there's still development on it and it's still functional, just now as an app.
Steam controller? 100% scrapped, but lots of the technology has clearly been refined into the steam deck. Also the steam controller software was expanded and now works for any controller on steam, which has been a godsend.
Steam VR? 100% supported and active development
Steam Big Picture? Continual support since release and now getting an overhaul for the steam deck.
Steam machines? Were a collab between valve and other companies like alienware that ended up scrapped because it just wasn't a product people wanted.
Sure products that people weren't ultimately too into eventually got scrapped (Steam controllers after 4 years, steam machines almost right away due to no interest) but that just makes sense, and almost all their other products were either developed further or branched out in different ways, like how steam link went from hardware to software.
If there's interest and money in the steam deck, of course it'll keep getting support.
I don't see the "interest and money" considering it's only available online, over steam, not worlwide and pre orders now have to wait till almost 2023 for one.
I don't know, the deck seems pretty fine, it's a lot of what's around that makes me not have faith in it.
I don't see Valve having a lot of faith in it's own product, when it's so restricted in scope. And yes, Valve could definitely have it on Amazon, Walmart, etc... Day 1
I do want one, even tho i think a laptop with those specs might not be that much more expensive in 2022-2023...
I play my first dota game in like 9 months and somehow every player on the opposing team has 150 APM more than anyone on mine while stomping every lane. Idk if it's smurfs or otherwise crappy matchmaking but it sure isn't motivating.
Wasn't göring one of the worst german generals? I thought he overestimated the luftwaffe and wound up wasting a bunch of resources on impossible missions.
